Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Tailgating Day which is always celebrated on the first Saturday of September. Tailgating is the custom of gathering outside the stadium before the game with fans of the same team for food, beverages and socializing. Gatherings often take place at the tailgate of a pickup truck or the trunk of a car, but neither are required.
Much like building a community, tailgating harkens back to a time when pioneering villages would come together to raise the framework of a building. Often followed by a large meal and perhaps a sporting competition of sorts, these harvest traditions were looked forward to year after year. Those who tailgate come back every year, weekend after weekend. Couples have met, families have grown, bonds have been forged, all through the community of tailgating.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Football Is an honest game. It's true to life . It's a game about sharing. Football is a team game. So is life.
Joe Namath
I had the opportunity to do a little tailgating this summer as we enjoyed a couple of picnics in the park, serving up the food from the back of DD’s truck. It’s was a handy thing to do and the tailgate made the perfect serving table.
I have never done any tailgating at a football game but do know some that do. It’s always fun and the food is always fantastic. Remember whether you’re tailgating right next to the stadium or hosting your own football party from your backyard, it’s important to be smart and safe to ensure everyone has a good time.
I know I’ve shared these pictures of our Sunday dinners in the park before. Hopefully September will bring some good weather our way and we’ll get to enjoy one more before summer is over.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday !
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Welsh Rarebit Day!
Rarebit is a dish widely offered in the UK. The Scotch and the English have their recipes, but I feel the Welsh are the one’s that can truly make the claim to it. Although I’ve never made Rarebit, I did find this recipe to share that sounds rather tasty.
Welsh Rarebit Toasties
4 slices bread
1 can deviled ham
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon A-1 steak sauce
1 1/2 teaspoon mild paprika
milk if needed to thin to spreading consistency
Remove the crusts from the bread and toast on one side. Turn and spread with a paste made of the remaining ingredients.
Place under broiler until cheese is melted and sprinkle with paprika.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
If you cannot be grateful for what you have received, then be thankful for what you have been spared.
Proverb
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4189. for tailgating, lots of fun
4190. for cheese and toast, always popular here at my house
4191. for good food and family, a great combination
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
If you look at tailgating, everyone does it. It's for everyone who likes to cook outdoors. It could be a 4th of July picnic.

Or even a Labor Day Picnic, I’m thinking…
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

I have never tailgated for a football game but it sounds fun to do. Having a picnic with friends and family is always fun to do.

Happy tailgating, MA. :-)
XOXO
Ha! Only a couple weeks ago, my cousin mentioned Rarebit and I didn't say anything because I'd no idea what it was!
Gosh, I was 60 y/o before I'd an opportunity to tailgate with son, g'daughter #1 and their friends for the Auburn v. Georgia game. My first college fb game and first tailgating, and it has to go down as one of the best experiences of my life!
