National Family Health and Fitness Day is observed annually on the last Saturday in September. This day promotes family involvement in physical activity in support of one of the goals of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health. Family Health And Fitness Day USA is organized by the Health Information Resource Center. The day was started in 1996.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Humor is contagious. Laughter is infectious. Both are good for your health.
William Fry
It’s always good to do things with family and staying healthy and fit is fun when you consider all the ways you can do it. One thing we used to was to take lots of hikes in the many parks here. These days my hikes are shorter than they used to be, but still I love walking through the woods. Time spent in nature, hiking, swimming, and camping provided many hours of fun for us.
This time of year many go to apple orchards and pick their own apples and that is what the pictures are of today. DS#6 and his family picking apples last year.
We’re to see a cool down here today and through the coming week. It’s not going to be cold, but in the lower 70’s and upper 60’s they say. Good weather to enjoy a walk or even to do some yard work. The weeds are still growing.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Cherries Jubilee Day
Cherries Jubilee were originally called Jubilee Cherries when served in 1887 for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. They were created by Auguste Escoffier and are made with pitted dark red cherries that are sautéed with sugar and brandy and then are set aflame. They are typically served over vanilla ice cream but can also be served over cake.
When we were camping my oldest son made a Cherry Upside Down cake in a cast iron pot set in hot coals. Since everyone loved it, today I’m sharing a recipe that can can be made at home in the oven.
Chocolate Cherry Upside Down Cake
1 box Devil's Food Cake Mix
2 cans Cherry Pie filling
Heat oven to 350°F. Prepare cake according to package directions. Pour one can cherry filling into each of two 8 inch round prepared baking pans. Spread evenly.
Pour batter over cherries, dividing equally between the two pans.
Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until toothpick tests clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Invert onto serving plate. Serve warm or cool.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
He who has health has hope. And he who has hope has everything.
Arabian Proverb
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4252. for healthy family fun
4253. for cherries, good and good for you too
4254. for a tasty cup of Fall Blend coffee this morning
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The best six doctors anywhere
And no one can deny it
Are sunshine, water, rest, and air
Exercise and diet.
These six will gladly you attend
If only you are willing
Your mind they'll ease
Your will they'll mend
And charge you not a shilling.
Nursery rhyme
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
Love,

Lovely family photos today Pam! You are so blessed! I love apples. This is the time of year for eating/cooking them! However your cake recipe is calling my name. Oddly enough I posted a cherry dessert recipe today as well! Great minds on the same wave length! Hope your Saturday is a blessed one! Thanks for all that you share! xoxo
Looks fun with your son and his family apple picking last year. A great family outing. Our weather cooled too, it was 64 degrees this morning and I don't think the air conditioner cut on last night at all

Hi Ma! You've shared some pretty neat photos before, but I don't know this first one of your grandson on the ladder doesn't beat them all. SMILES!
I was just visiting w/ son and before hanging up we reminded each other (that) yes, there is always something for which to be thankful.
