THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Distance makes the heart grow fonder
Author Unknown
This is another of the way too many long distance celebrations here at my house. As usual my birthday wishes went out in the mail to this DIL.
Today is also International Read An eBook Day and that is one celebration I can participate in. No more are we tied to reading books in the old format with two covers and hundreds of pages. With the invention of the eBook we have reached the point where the wonder of reading is available to anyone with a computer or portable electronic device. It’s become a huge industry, with devices like Kindle, Nooks, and apps available on many types of devices like cell phones and tablet. Reading is one thing I love to do and thankfully I have a Kindle now to do so.
When I looked out the window this morning I got to see the beautiful Harvest Moon shining brightly in the western sky. It’s only 51 degrees here right now but it’s to be a beautiful day and warm up to the mid 80’s.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Guacamole Day which is a terrific excuse to indulge in the tastiest of dips. Not only is it a great addition to a savory spread, it’s also good for you!
MILD GUACAMOLE DIP
1 avocado, mashed or pureed
1/2 c. sour cream
1/4 c. minced onion
1 tsp. chili powder
2 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 medium sized lemon, squeezed
Combine all ingredients. Cover and chill. Makes about 1 3/4 to 2 cups. To add a little color and make it a little milder, peel 2 tomatoes, pulse in blender and add to other ingredients and chill.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
One of the greatest gifts
That life can give to anyone
Is the very special love that families share...
As years go by,
It's good to know that there will always be
Certain people in our lives who care.
For there are countless things
That only families have in common
And memories that no one else can make...
And these precious ties that bind a family together
Are bonds that time and distance cannot break.
How fortunate we are
When we have relatives to love us,
It makes the world a happy place to be...
Few gifts in life
Will last as long
Or touch the heart as deeply
As the very special gift
Of family.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Happy birthday to your daughter in law! Nice cool temps for you there. Must feel good after the hot summer. I seem to read all my books as ebooks these days. So convenient. The dip recipe looks good.

I have a Nook and I love it. It has certainly made reading easier for me!! I love guacamole but unfortunately I cannot eat it. I don't know what it is about avocados that make me sick. Every single time I eat them. So I just don't risk it anymore!!
