ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
MARCH 6TH, 2010
It's SUPER SATURDAY!
Today we’re all gathering at DS#6’s house to celebrate March birthdays and to welcome our little Lucky to the family. Not all of my family can be there, but quite a few will.
As always I’ll be taking pictures!
Our temps went down in the teens last night but today we should be sunny and in the 40’s. A heat wave for sure!
THINKING
Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Today: Speak kindly all day long.
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
St. Patrick's Day is approaching so here is a favorite recipe I’m sharing
Whole Wheat Soda Bread
2 cups whole-wheat flour
2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups buttermilk
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray and sprinkle with a little flour.
Whisk whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center and pour in buttermilk. Using one hand, stir in full circles (starting in the center of the bowl working toward the outside of the bowl) until all the flour is incorporated. The dough should be soft but not too wet and sticky. When it all comes together, in a matter of seconds, turn it out onto a well-floured surface. Clean dough off your hand.
Pat and roll the dough gently with floury hands, just enough to tidy it up and give it a round shape. Flip over and flatten slightly to about 2 inches. Transfer the loaf to the prepared baking sheet. Mark with a deep cross using a serrated knife and prick each of the four quadrants.
Bake the bread for 20 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 400° and continue to bake until the loaf is brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped, 30 to 35 minutes more. Transfer the loaf to a wire rack and let cool for about 30 minutes.
PRAYERS
God of all our days, help us to treasure each person and each day you give us. Guide us to live always for your glory
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU!
AROUND HOME
The end of the missing library book saga.
I have to tell you I’ve never felt so embarrassed in my life, but the 2 missing books were found yesterday morning when I was getting ready for work. I was drying my hair in the bathroom and happened to lean over by the tub and what did I see there but the two books. Now I’m thinking I would not put them there, but at this point anything is possible.
I stopped at the library and got my money back. I had to forfeit a processing fee but the rest was refunded. I profusely apologized to them for all the bother I caused. I guess I’m just glad they were found, but I will forever be wondering how those books got there …
FAMILY
I had a great half day off yesterday and DD and I had fun shopping for the newest babe in our family and for his Mom too. We’ve decided that from now on if we need anything we are shopping at the outlet mall. The prices there were amazing. We’ve only ever gone on President’s Day weekend, but now we know they do have some terrific prices other times too.
