ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH, 2020

The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Sweetest Day which was originally called the Sweetest Day of the Year. This holiday celebrates all things sweet Although it may sound similar to Valentines Day, Sweetest Day does not focus on only romantic love. Instead is serves as a reminder that a thoughtful deed makes a life a whole lot sweeter.
Sweetest Day originated in Cleveland, Ohio in 1921. A committee of twelve candy confectioners decided to spread joy and cheer to those that were often forgotten doing the holidays. They distributed over 20,000 boxes of can to newsboys, orphans, hospital patients, the elderly, and the poor across the city. Although Sweetest Day is most popular in the Great Lakes region, the holiday is recognized nationwide. It is celebrated the third Saturday of each year.
To celebrate today, share a meal with a loved one, sent a thoughtful card and remember to do a good deed for someone in need.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch,a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
Leo Buscaglia
I know not everyone has heard about Sweetest Day but here at my house it’s become a tradition for me. It’s a day to appreciate all the sweeties in my life which include my family and friends. These are the people that make my life worthwhile. So happy Sweetest Day everyone! Know that you make my life all the sweeter. You are very loved and appreciated.
The pictures today are of each family in my family. My son’s and daughter all have families of their own making me a very blessed person. They are my sweethearts and make my life so much better. These were taken last year and so far the family has stayed the same is no longer growing. It seems that we are stuck on number at 21 grandchildren. That’s more than enough for me. We started as a family of 7 and new number 33.
This makes it very hard to all get together, but we tried last Christmas and all gathered at DS#4’s house for a family reunion. That is when most of these pictures were taken. All were present except for DS#3 and his family and 3 of DS#2’s children. But I did add their pictures today.
With time and distance making it a problem it’s just not possible for everyone to get together.
For today I’m once again cooking for the weekend and on the menu is:
Roast Beef Dinner
serves 4
21 oz. boneless beef chuck roast
21 oz. root vegetables, carrots and potatoes , cut into 2 inch pieces
2 onions, halved
4 stalks celery, thinly sliced
14 oz can diced tomatoes
1 cup chicken broth
1 tsp ginger
2 tso, oregano
1 tso coriander
With slow cooker on low, layer vegetables on bottom with the meat resting on top. Add tomatoes, broth and spices. Cover and cook 7 hours on low or 4 hours on high.
Remove meat and rest covered on carving board. Gently transfer vegetables to serving platter and cover to keep warm.
Put remaining juices in a small saucepan and heat over high heat for 5 to 10 minutes to reduce slightly . Blend until you have a smooth sauce. Cut meat and serve with vegetables and sauce.
This will be my dinner tonight and tomorrow because Sunday’s are my day to rest.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Gratitude is the sweetest thing in a seeker’s life, in all human life. If there is gratitude in your heart, then there will be tremendous sweetness in your eyes.

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Happy Sweetest Day everyone !
You have such a big beautiful family. That's a whole lot of schedules to try to work around to all get together at once. Happy Sweetest Day to you too Ma. Enjoy your roast beef dinner this weekend :)
I have heard of Sweetest Day but I didn't know how it originated. I like how it got started and how it helped those who may have been forgotten on holidays, etc. Great looking family you have, Ma! 21 is a good number of grandchildren and I would imagine within a few years you might even have great grandchildren coming along!

I don't recall having heard of Sweetest Day ... 'probably presumed it was the same as Valentine's. ("Every day's a school day.") Because I was an only child, I grew up dreaming of having a large family of my own: 3 boys, 3 girls. Sadly, I only had my one son. At least he's blessed me with two granddaughters. Now I can hardly wait to be a great-g'ma!
Hope your roast beef dinner's delicious!
