ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
NOVEMBER 23rd, 2011
It's WEDNESDAY!
TIE ONE ON DAY
In the spirit of women in earlier generations, celebrating this day is simple. On the day before Thanksgiving, November 23rd this year, pause in the preparation of your own meal, wrap a loaf of bread or other baked good in an apron, tuck a prayer or note of encouragement in the pocket, and tie one on…an APRON, of course! and deliver the wrapped bundle to someone without your bounty… a neighbor, friend or family member in need of physical or spiritual sustenance, a bit of recognition or just a kind word.
.National Tie One On Day is a win-win, for the participant and the receiver. We can all make someone else’s day brighter whether we tie on an apron or not. Giving a smile or a hug always make my day better.
How to Observe Thanksgiving
Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

NEW IN THE KITCHEN
EAT A CRANBERRY DAY!Native to North America, cranberries are grown in bogs, and are primarily grown in New England. When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they found Native Americans harvesting them, and eating them. Native Americans also used them as dyes for clothing, and for medicinal purposes.
Cranberries have had medicinal uses, most commonly for treating urinary infections. It also is high in Vitamin C and is often eaten to help fight and avoid colds. In the 1800's American sailors ate cranberries on long voyages to prevent scurvy.

AROUND HOME
Thanksgiving Day will soon be here
It comes around but once a year
If I could only have my way,
We'd have Thanksgiving every day.
There are not many of us that do wear aprons anymore. Now you see them mostly worn by cooks and servers in restaurants. I used to wear them but over time just quit. Still they did a good job of covering our clothing so that we stayed clean while working in the kitchen and they usually had nice big pockets in them too and I do love pockets.
Sorry to say I'll not be wrapping a loaf of bread in an apron to give away this year. But I think that I will have to be on the lookout for aprons now and make Tie One On a holiday tradition for next year.
Today our little Mr. Wonderful is supposed to be having surgery for getting tubes in his ears. Please join me in praying for a safe and successful procedure. Hopefully this will help with the ear infections he has been experiencing.
I'll be working in the kitchen today. Getting some things ready for our Family Feast. I'm thankful today for food to eat and food to share with others.
COUNTING THE DAYS
Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy , and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.

I miss wearing aprons, haven't had one for many years. Like you, I like pockets. Thanks for the lovely post. I especially like How To Celebrate Thanksgiving.
Thank you, Ma, for the encouraging words. Love you much.
