Decide to be happy today, to live with what is yours – your family, your business, your job, your luck. If you can’t have what you like, maybe you can like what you have.
Just for today, be kind, cheerful, agreeable, responsive, caring, and understanding. Be your best, dress your best, talk softly, and look for the bright side of things. Praise people for what they do and do not criticize them for what they cannot do. If someone does something stupid, forgive and forget. After all, it’s just for one day.
Who knows, it might turn out to be a nice day.
Always think on the bright side--no matter what life brings to your day. You'll gain a treasure within your soul that no worry or hardship can ever take away. Isaac Purcell
RECIPES AND CRAFTS
The labels shown below will take you to posts with recipes and a few craft ideas that I've included in my daily entries.
I'm looking out the window and the day is drab and dreary, And I'm trying to console myself by thinking something cheery I know it's simply horrible to get in such a slump And I also know it's up to me to get across the hump And I realize I'm selfish to mention this to you For, gee, you might be feeling a little 'low-down' too but often when I feel like this I tell myself it's true That I am not the only one who feels 'low-down and blue' And just knowing there are others who feel the way I do Renews my sinking spirit and keeps me smiling through and know that it's natural to take a 'spirit-dive' Provides the spunk and courage to hang on and survive And while there are a lot of moods that we can drive away by looking on the BRIGHT SIDE in all we do and say, There also is a loneliness that God meant us to feel But, gee, it sure is mighty hard to know which one is real And I'd hate to be a 'sad sack' who never saw the sun And just complained that every day was such a dreary one. But I know that all the dark days are just part of God's plan We should accept them graciously and do the best we can... So I'll just keep on trying for I know it's 'Gospel true' there never was a cloud so dark the sun could not shine through!

On the Bright Side Newsletter
I send this little letter out each morning to all my family and friends and even to a few people that I've never met. Many of them send it on to others too. So in order to make it available to more people I post the 'brighter side' of the news here each day in this journal. The letter began as an effort to keep in touch with my family as they are spread out in all directions. My family, friends and God are the most important things in my life. You'll find quotes, poems and stories and even a few recipes included in this newsletter. I try to find something new each day to share. In a world that very often publishes only the dark side of things I felt that others would be encouraged to hear about 'the bright side'. 'On Ya'-ma

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE
The comfortable and comforting people are those who look upon the bright side of life; gathering its roses and sunshine and makingthe most that happens seem the best.
Veterans's Day honors all members of the Armed Forces who who served this country valiantly, and in a very big way. They served and fought to protect us, to keep our country safe, and to preserve our way of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you and me. In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice.
On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day and time each year for a moment of silence.
I'm sending a big THANK YOU out today to our past and present Veterans!
How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!

Always remember that as One Nation, Under God, the United States of America is far, far removed from the turmoil and danger that is experienced around the world on a daily basis, and that we are so very blessed to live where we do, especially during the holiday season. The closest that we have come to experiencing that turmoil and danger in recent times were the events of September 11, 2001.
For this wonderful gift of peace and freedom we have only one person to give thanks to – the American Soldier.
Remember that the men and women of the United States Military have freely chosen to protect us and give us this gift.
It is a gift that can never be reciprocated in full, and only asks for remembrance in return.
Many American Soldiers will not come home from their stations of turmoil and danger around the world to be with their families and friends for the holidays.
The American Soldier will stand steadfast and strong, continuing to protect us and fight for freedom in places around the world with conditions that we cannot even begin to imagine.
May God Bless them and their families, and may He hold them safe in His arms until they come home again.
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow... In Flanders fields.
Because of McCrae's inspiration, those bright red poppies are still used by veterans around the world to honor and remember those who have died in wars. Millions of tiny red poppies are the living tribute and promise of remembrance for those who fight for freedom
AROUND HOME
We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.

From WWII to Vietnam to the present day, I've had members of my family serving the military of our country. I know too well the sacrifices that are and have been made to insure our rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Did you know that November 11, or what has come to be known as Veterans Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor Armistice Day - the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In legislature that was passed in 1938, November 11 was dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day. As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.
In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word Armistice and inserting the word Veterans. With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
