IT’S SUNDAY !!
First off I want to say how much your prayers have helped. I was able to witness the Lord’s work in my family as they very bravely went through the funeral of my grandson yesterday. Yes there were tears and sorrow for all of us as we all have that spot in our lives that will never be the same, but we all leaned on each other and with much love all around us we got through the day.
It was a beautiful sunny day for northern Ohio. One that we rarely get. Roads were all clear and everyone was able to travel safely to and from.
I do have so much to be thankful for.
I have to share with you a lighter side of our visit to the cemetery. As we were getting ready to leave a dog ran up between all the cars and greeted us all and happily wagged his tail as if to say he was there to tell us not to cry that everything was going to be okay. He gave us all a reason to smile and trotted happily on his way. Some one said that my little grandson was born under the sign of the ‘dog’ and that was his way of saying goodbye.
What ever the reason, we were all very grateful for a smile about then.
The days ahead will not be easy for any of us, but we are comforted in with the thought that our little one is in heaven and I think he could have just been welcomed by his grand’pa’. My DDH never had the chance to know any of his grandchildren, but I know too that he is right up there with the angels and saints.
We begin the Advent Season today in preparation for Christmas. It will be an extra special one for us all this year as with out the loving gift of our Father in heaven we would have no reason for our hope.
May the Peace, Joy, and Love of Christmas reign now in our hearts;
today and forever more.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

TODAY IS… SACHER TORTE DAY
Austrians take their baking seriously - and the definition of a true Sacher Torte had to be decided in court. In the early 1800's, the Congress of Vienna ruled that a Sacher Torte was made of two chocolate cake layers separated by apricot jam with a chocolate glaze on the top and sides. The most famous Sacher Tort is made (of course)at the Sacher Hotel in Vienna, but you can makes your's at home
4 egg whites
In a large mixing bowl, bring egg whites to room temperature. Grease and flour a 9" round baking pan and preheat oven to 350 degrees F.Melt the butter and chocolate over low heat in a medium saucepan. Cool, then stir in egg yolks and vanilla. Set this pan of chocolate mixture aside. Beat the egg whites with an electric mixer untill soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar beating on high speed for about 4 minutes or untill it forms stiff peaks. Gently fold about 1 cup of egg whites into the saucepan of chocolate mixture. Then fold the chocolate mixture into the rest of the egg whites. Gently fold in the flour. Don't overfold. Spread the batter into the round baking pan. Bake for about 35 minutes or untill a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove cake from pan and cool completely.
Cut cake horizontally into two even layers. Put one layer on a sheet of waxed paper. Spread the preserves over the top. Add the second cake layer. Spoon Sacher Torte Chocolate Glaze over cake so it runs down the sides. Carefully transfer cake to a serving plate.

TODAY’S SMILE
The only survivor of a shipwreck washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost.
He was stung with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me!" he cried.Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island.
It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27
What a wonderful promise. Peace, deep lasting peace, is the end result of the Holy Spirit's work in our life. This peace is unique. It is not like the peace of the world. With the peace that God gives to us, we need not fear the present or the future
Peace is that state in which fear of any kind is unknown.

IT’S SATURDAY !!
Today I’m sending out a very shortened version of my
newsletter. The funeral for my grandson is today and I’m asking for prayers. That the good Lord will strengthen us all and send His loving angels to wrap their arms around us all and give His comfort to the sorrowing.
The prayers are helping and I do thank you all for the support you’ve given to me and my family at this very difficult time.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.
Philippians 4:11
Sometimes we may identify with Paul when we feel imprisoned by circumstances. We may allow guilt to enslave us or feel that health problems, a difficult family situation, or job loss has clipped our wings.
Because of these limitations, we are not always able to do things exactly our way. Yet this may lead us to become more open to seeking and submitting to God's will. Our attitude and response to life and to God are choices. We can choose to be content within our unchangeable circumstances and to serve God with joy
Lord, help us to know that you are our joy and our strength.
Amen

IT’S FRIDAY !!
Thankfully our weather has cleared up a bit and all our travels back and forth from and to DS#3’s house have been safe ones. Today and tomorrow will be 2 of the most difficult trips to make no matter that the sun may shine and the roads are clear.
Today is the visitation which is private and open to only our family
And tomorrow is the funeral. Please keep my son and daughter in law in your prayers as they are physically and mentally drained.
May the dear Lord bless them with comfort and give them the strength they need to get through this most difficult time.
Our Thanksgiving day was a beautiful one full of family love and thanksgiving. Hopefully the good times they have all spent together will sustain them for the hard days ahead.

"Sure you are, son!" said his dad, wondering a bit at why his son would ask such a silly thing.
The next day, the cub asked the question again and again.
"Are you and mom polar bears? You are? Well, then, does that make me a polar bear? Pure, 100% polar bear?"

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Psalm 100:1
Psalm 100 is one of the great songs of thanksgiving in the Bible. It calls us to realize that we belong to God our Maker (vv.3-4), and to praise Him for His goodness, mercy, and truth
During a recent reading, however, I was struck by a phrase that speaks of expressing thanks in a tangible, willing way: “Serve the Lord with gladness” (v.2).
Many times my service to God is more grudging than glad. I do what I consider my duty, but I’m not happy about it.
True thankfulness is more than being grateful for what we possess. It’s an attitude that permeates our relationship with the Lord so that we may serve Him with gladness and joy

I read the following in one of my online mediations and I thought it appropriate to share for my thoughts today.
If you could give a person only one thing to help them,
What would it be?
I thought carefully about his question; then I replied, "It's not one thing. It's two: gratitude and letting go." Gratitude for everything, not just the things we consider good or a blessing. And letting go of everything we can't change
We do need to be thankful for everything and to let go of what cannot be changed.

TODAY IS…THANKSGIVING DAY
Today is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., by presidential proclamation. Thanksgiving was observed throughout New England as a religious holiday even before the American Revolution. Then it spread to the middle states and the West, and finally to the South after the Civil War
The first Thanksgiving Day in America was actually the first holiday ever in the U.S. - on November 26, 1789.
It seems both Houses of Congress had requested that President George Washington proclaim a “...day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity to peaceably establish a form of government for their safety and happiness
Today, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday of November. This was set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939 (approved by Congress in 1941), who changed it from Abe Lincoln’s designation as the last Thursday in November (which could occasionally end up being the fifth Thursday and hence too close to Christmas for businesses

Revelation 19:9
Today’s readings speak of great destruction and pain on earth before Jesus returns—something we are already very much familiar with in our times. Are we prepared to greet him whenever he appears, and partake in the wedding feast?
We may sometimes wonder whether we are worthy of an invitation to such a wonderful celebration. What must we do to ensure there is a place for us there with the Lamb of God? The angel later tells John in the book of the Revelation that we are to hold to the truth that Jesus revealed, and to worship God.
While we await Jesus’ reappearance, we can invoke him in many great or small ways. ‘Maranatha’ means ‘Come, Lord’ in the Aramaic language of Jesus’ time. Repeating this simple prayer we gradually discern the close and gentle presence of the Lord in our lives. Jesus, we need you and want you to come to us. Enter our souls until we see you in person with all your power and glory.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY !!
It is hard to believe it is Wednesday. The days since last Saturday have been a blur. I feel like time has stood still. Today will be a little easier for me anyway as DS#3 has requested that we stay home and not visit with them til evening anyway so that they can re-coop a little.
Having so many people around has helped them I’m sure and I think it is a good sign that they are ready to have some time without us there. One of DDIL#3’s sisters will arrive there today from out of state and I know her family will want some time to themselves without all our gang there too.
The snow blasted our area relentlessly on Tuesday and at DS#3’s the roads were really bad. They live out in what we call the snow belt and got a lot more than we did. The weather man says by Thursday we’ll see much better weather. We may all just wait until Thanksgiving Day to get together again. We’ll see…
Here at home today I need to do a little grocery shopping and get some laundry done. I also need to make some phone calls to people that I’ve not been able to do yet as things have been so terribly hectic. If we go to DS#3’s it won’t be until later in the day.
All this snow makes it seem like it’s Christmas time and not Thanksgiving.
Take good care all and keep warm!

A small boy once approached his slightly older sister with a question about God. "Susie, can anybody ever really see God?" he asked.Busy with other things, Susie curtly replied: "No, of course not silly. God is so far up in heaven that nobody can see him."
Time passed, but his question still lingered so he approached his mom: "Mom, can anybody ever really see God?" "No, not really," she gently said. "God is a spirit and he dwells in our hearts, but we can never really see Him." Somewhat satisfied but still wondering, the youngster went on his way.
Not long afterwards, his saintly old grandfather took the little boy on a fishing trip. They were having a great time together - it had been an ideal day. The sun was beginning to set with unusual splendor as the day ended. The old man stopped fishing and turned his full attention to the exquisite beauty unfolding before him.
On seeing the face of his grandfather reflecting such deep peace and contentment as he gazed into the magnificent ever-changing sunset, the little boy thought for a moment and finally spoke hesitatingly: "Granddad, I - I - wasn't going to ask anybody else, but I wonder if you can tell me the answer to something I've been wondering about a long time - can anybody - can anybody ever really see God?".
The old man did not even turn his head. A long moment slipped by before he finally answered. "Son," he quietly said. "It's getting so I can't see anything else."

One of the joys of being with kids is holding their hands. We do it to keep them safe while crossing the street, or to keep them from getting lost in a crowd. And whenever they stumble and lose their footing, we grab their little hands tighter to keep them from falling
That’s what God does for us. Inevitably there are stones and cracks that trip us up on the sidewalks of life. That’s why it’s easy to identify with the psalmist, who said, “My steps had nearly slipped” (Ps. 73:2).
We all face a variety of issues that threaten to make us stumble. For the psalmist Asaph, seeing the prosperity of the wicked caused him to question the goodness of God. But God squeezed his hand and reassured him that, given the judgment of God, the wicked do not really prosper. True prosperity, the psalmist discovered, was found in the fact that God was always with him:

HAPPY TUESDAY !!
As of today we sort of have a plan for the week ahead. My DS#5 and I are headed for DS#3’ s house early this morning to be there in time to make breakfast for them all. We’ll be spending the entire day with them. DS#4 and family, DD and DS#6 and his wife will come in a little later in the day.
DS#1 and family will probably come in on Wednesday along with DS#2.
On Thanksgiving Day we are all going to DS#3’s for our family feast. DDIL#3’s family and all my family will be there and we’ll all be taking something to share. At this point they need family around them and want all of us there
Funeral plans have been made. Thursday will be the visitation at the funeral home which will probably be private and limited to just family. My son and his wife are just not up to a lot of visitors and conversation right now. The funeral service at their church will be Saturday morning at 11:00 and all are invited to that. After the burial everyone there will be invited back to the church for a little luncheon. The ladies at the church provide everything which is so very generous of them..
At this point no determination has been made on the cause of death. They are still waiting for some of the tests to be returned and maybe something will show up in them. Right now it is totally unknown.
I want to thank all of you for your prayers and to let you all know it means a lot to all of us.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

This upright man had kept the letter of the law, yet had fallen short. “Who then can be saved?” asked the astonished disciples (v.25). Jesus answered, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (v.26).

HAPPY MONDAY !!
I wish I could say it was a happy day. I’ll be going into work this morning because it is necessary that the payroll be done. I will be asking my boss for the rest of the week off. I would have been off on Thursday and Friday anyway. I don’t know yet what any of the plans are for the funeral of my little grandson, but will let you know as I find out.
After church on Sunday, my DD, her hubby DSIL, and DS#5 and his wife and I went back to DS#3’s house. We took some food and just went to be some support for them. The week ahead is going to be so very hard.
Please pray for my son and his wife and the family as we grieve the loss of my youngest grandson.
I’ll probably be sending my newsletter as usual as it gives me something to do, the ordinary things in life help to keep us going sometimes.
Have a great day all ! Another wonderful one on the Way !

Thanksgiving Day was near. The first grade teacher gave her class a fun assignment -- to draw a picture of something for which they were thankful. Most of the class might be considered economically disadvantaged, but still many would celebrate the holiday with turkey and other traditional goodies of the season. These, the teacher thought, would be the subjects of most of her student's art.
And they were. But Douglas made a different kind of picture. Douglas was a different kind of boy. He was the teacher's true child of misery, frail and unhappy. As other children played at recess, Douglas was likely to stand close by her side. One could only guess at the pain Douglas felt behind those sad eyes.Yes, his picture was different. When asked to draw a picture of something for which he was thankful, he drew a hand. Nothing else. Just an empty hand.
His abstract image captured the imagination of his peers. Whose hand could it be? One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, because farmers raise turkeys. Another suggested a police officer, because the police protect and care for people. Still others guessed it was the hand of God, for God feeds us. And so the discussion went -- until the teacher almost forgot the young artist himself.
When the children had gone on to other assignments, she paused at Douglas' desk, bent down, and asked him whose hand it was.The little boy looked away and murmured, "It's yours, teacher."She recalled the times she had taken his hand and walked with him here or there, as she had the other students. How often had she said, "Take my hand, Douglas, we'll go outside." Or, "Let me show you how to hold your pencil." Or, "Let's do this together."
Douglas was most thankful for his teacher's hand. Brushing aside a tear, she went on with her work. The story speaks of more than thankfulness. It says something about teachers teaching and parents parenting and friends showing friendship, and how much it means to the Douglases of the world. They might not always say thanks. But they'll remember the hand that reaches out.

TODAY’S REFLECTION
Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?" And the King will answer, "I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it to me.
Mt 25:40-41
Change is a fact of life. The rate of change continues to accelerate. Change brings new opportunities for those who seize them and new burdens for those who find it difficult to adapt. Change is unsettling for everyone. In the midst of change, wise and innovative leaders are a blessing to be sought after and encouraged.
Genuine leaders bind people together into respect filled communities, where truth is a foundation stone, limitation is accepted, generosity nurtured, love thrives and where uniqueness is more important than usefulness.More than anything else, the young need to experience such communities and such leaders at home, at school and at play.
Christ the King is the role model for such leadership. He experienced rejection but he built a faith community. Nobody can do more
