Today is also Hot Toddy Day which celebrates a drink made with honey, lemon, hot water and the spirit of your choice , usually whisky, brandy or rum.  It’s the perfect way to warm up on a cold winter day and a few sips can also relieve cold or flu symptoms.

Hot toddies originated in Scotland sometime during the 18th century.  While the exact details are unknown, historians believe that the recipe was developed to make the the taste of Scotch whisky more palatable.  One theory suggests that the word Tody evolved from Tod’s well also known as Todian Spring, the water supply for Edinburgh.

There are many variations on the original hot toddy recipe, Some versions call for tea, coffee, cocoa, apple cider, spices, or even butter.  To celebrate today brew up your favorite type of hot today and enjoy !

Ice is most welcome on a cold drink on a hot day.  But in the heart of winter, you want a warm hot mug with your favorite soothing brew to to keep the chill away.  When you don’t have anything warm a hand, even a memory can be a small substitute.

This sweet granddaughter is now a very grown up beautiful young woman.  I haven’t seen her in many years.  She lives the furthest way of my grandchildren and time and distance keep us apart.  But I will be sending out a card to her with love and birthday wishes for a very Happy Day !  I’ll also light my birthday candle as I do for all my long distance birthdays.  

I love most hot drinks in the winter and often have hot cider, chocolate, tea and coffee.

I don’t have a favorite toddy recipe to share, but do imbibe in one now and then, especially in the cold weather. 

It’s another very cold day here below freezing, in the 20’s with night time temps even colder.  So far I’ve no freezing water pipes and am hoping it stays that way.  

I’m happy to say all went well at my doctors appointment yesterday.  My weight and blood pressure  are holding steady and every thing checked out ok.  I even managed to lose 2 lbs.  With the holidays just over, that’s amazing.
