Ho, Ho, Ho…it’s Christmas Card Day!
Christmas Card Day, honors Sir Henry Cole of England. Cole created the first commercial Christmas Card in 1843.
Just a few decades ago, sending Christmas cards through the mail was a holiday must. Sending cards through the mail continues to be very popular. The cost and time for writing and sending cards has caused many people to stop sending them.
Today is a good day to send out your Christmas cards and holiday greetings. If you have yet to do so, use today to get a start.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air.
W.T. Ellis
I haven’t finished addressing the envelopes for the cards I want to send out this, but maybe today will be the day I get it all done. I think that the act of sitting down and writing a card for someone is a labor of love. Regardless of what you put inside, that shines through. Christmas cards are about spreading the cheer and excitement of the season.
Although I don’t receive as many as I used to, it's so much fun to open a mailbox with more pieces of personal mail than bills and advertisements.
I love to recycle Christmas cards too and often used the ones from previous years to make gift tags for the presents I give. Simply cut out a picture from the old card, making sure there is no writing on the back and punch holes in the top of the tag for inserting a ribbon through. This makes it easy to attach the tag and is a nice finishing look.
You can also make a festive garland to hang by reusing old Christmas cards. You'll also need a craft punch with a holiday shape or a simple shape like a circle, some small round stickers and some string. If you'd like, use various kinds of craft punch shapes that represent the holiday season. If you don't have a craft punch or want more variety, trace shapes over the cards using a pencil and cut them out. Cookie cutters make an excellent tracing template. Cut a length of string long enough to hang on a wall, and attach the punched out shapes. This part is simple. Use round stickers to attach the back of the card shape to the string. The stickers form part of the whole design, so be sure to stick neatly and center the card shape. You can continue to add to the garland year after year by attaching more string and adding new shapes.
Christmas cards are a delight to send and receive and to recycle.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday !

That is a good idea for the gift tags out of old Christmas cards :) I do agree too, Ma, that writing out a Christmas card is a gift of love to someone; they know that you value them enough to take time to write one out indeed :)

I have only sent out 2 cards, and received one. Gone are the old days :-(. I am going to send a few more, though.
Every Xmas I say "This is the last year".
This is the last year, MA!
Most of my people and friends are gone now, so I send and get very few cards. But at work, there are cards galore as vendors and clients send them pouring in! It's very cheering, even if it's just a business ploy!
