Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is National Roof Over Your Head Day. It is a day of appreciation for the things we have, starting with the roof over our heads.
For most of us, a roof over our head signifies living in a house that protects us from the elements, keeping us warm, dry, and cozy. Unfortunately, not everyone is as lucky as you and I. There are many homeless people right here in our country. Some people live in a cardboard box on the street...... literally. There are millions of people around the world who live in poverty or disaster areas, and do not have a home to keep them comfortable and safe.
Spend a few minutes being thankful that you are not homeless, and appreciating your roof and home today. Also make a contribution to a homeless shelter, so others can come in out of the rain.
Remember always to appreciate what you have !
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.
Irish Blessing
I am thankful for the roof over my head. Every day I’m reminded that I have a lot that others don’t. We often take for granted the luxurious homes we have compared to what many others have. We have heat and electricity and clean water, not to mention TV’s, stoves and refrigerators.
Did you know that the homeownership rate in the United States is around 64% of the population? Studies have shown that homeowners are more active in their communities, have improved education opportunities, and report higher levels of self esteem and happiness.
The primary job of most roofs is to keep out water. The large area of a roof repels a lot of water, which must be directed in some suitable way, so that it does not cause damage or inconvenience. Because the purpose of a roof is to protect people and their possessions from climatic elements, the insulating properties of a roof are a consideration in it
structure and the choice of roofing material. Being dry and cozy protected from elements of wind, rain and snow is pretty nice in deed.
Except for the last one, the pictures shown today are from when I visited a gift store in Amish country this fall. DDIL#5 thoughtfully sent me the very last one as she thought it was something I’d like and I do. I wouldn’t mind a roof like one of these.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
We take care of our health, we lay up money, we make our roof tight and our clothing sufficient, but who provides wisely that he shall not be wanting the best property of all — friends.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

21 Days Until Christmas
Advent tip for today: Spend time together playing with the family nativity scene and acting out the story.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shinning.

That was a thoughtful gift from DDIL#5. So true about being grateful for a home; I do thank God regularly for the house we live in. When we lived in San Diego and you would go downtown, you would see street after street after street of homeless people living in tarps; almost in a community type setting. So sad; so good to be thankful for having a home. Replacing a roof can be quite expensive as I know you are probably aware; but maybe there is so good analogy there about building on a good foundation something sturdy in relationship to not just living in a house, but building one's life on the good foundation of God :)
