THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I want to take all our best moments, put them in a jar, and take them out like cookies and savor each one of them forever.

There has been no cookie baking going on here at my house. Next week I hope to get some done so I’ll have some to share at the family gathering. Just how much I’ll get done remains to be seen. Today’s pictures are from this time last year.
The all time favorites here at my house are iced sugar cookies, peanut blossoms with the candy kiss on top and M and M cookies. I’m not going to make any of those because I’m sure others will be making them, I did a little searching though the cookbooks to see if there might just be another favorite everyone liked when they were growing up and discovered an old recipe that I received from one of my husband’s aunts for Tom and Jerry which was a traditional drink they served at Christmas time.
Tom and Jerry Mix
4 eggs
1/2 pound (1 cup) powdered sugar
1 jigger of rum, per serving
Beat egg whites until stiff
Beat egg yields until thick
combine and add sugar
a little at a time
Let age in refrigerator
To serve:
Put in mug approximately 2 Tablespoons of batter
add boiling water and rum
sprinkle with nutmeg
I haven’t been able to find this recipe in years and thought I’d lost it so was very glad to find it. Of course I never thought to look in my cookie book for it. I’m finally glad to be able to share it with everyone. Somewhere in the basement storage I have a special Tom and Jerry bowl and cups that are meant to be used when making up this drink for a crowd. It’s said that long ago my husband’s grandfather would make this and would set it out on the bar for friends to enjoy at Christmas.
So I didn’t discover any old cookie recipes but it’s nice to pass along a family tradition.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !

6 Days Until Christmas
Advent tip for today: Make Christmas cookies and be sure to add some sprinkles.
Did you ever wonder where the custom of leaving milk and cookies out for Santa came from. It is said that leaving cookies and milk for Santa could be linked to Saint Nicholas. During the tradition feast of jolly old St. Nick, December 6th, children would leave food and drink for the saint and his attendants. These offerings would be exchanged for gifts overnight.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Baking cookies is comforting, and cookies are the sweetest little bit of comfort food. They are very bite sized and personal.

All those cookies look delicious! Makes me want to make a batch or two this year :) Glad you were able to find the recipe for that drink; sounds yummy and a wonderful tradition!

I like to save cookie tins and then, I make my own cookies and fill the tins and give them as presents. My peanut butter cookies are pretty good, it has only taken me 33 years to perfect the recipe! LOL! :-)
Oh my goodness, cookies!
I love to bake cookies and eat them, too. Ha.
Ron is the chocolate chip cookie baker in our home...he makes the best I have ever tasted.
Hope your days are sweet.

Something I love about having lived all over is the variety of customs. Tom and Jerry batter is sold in Southern Oregon at this time of year! It's like stepping back in time! Thank you for refreshing my memory and posting that recipe!
