ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 26th, 2010
It's TUESDAY!
We are back to below freezing temps today.
BrrrChill!
Time to layer up to keep warm again. I certainly appreciated the January thaw we had and am looking forward to more warmer days as we get closer to Spring.
THINKING
Joy is a fruit of the Spirit that’s always in season. Some people are blessed with a cheerful disposition. They always seem to be happy. But then there are others who seem to be chronically sad. They continually complain about life and its burdens. Not everybody is blessed with a bright outlook on life, we need to remember that joy is one of the gifts Jesus promised to His followers. And we need to resist any tendency to let sadness control our lives
You now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you
John 16:22
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
Turkey Burgers
For a better burger, buy ground turkey that has 7% to 10% dark meat. If you have tried turkey burgers before, you might have decided they just weren't for you. Maybe they were too dry, or they fell apart when you tried to eat them. Or they just didn't taste good. And, while you want to eat healthy, you don't want to give up on taste. Well the problem with those earlier turkey burgers might have been that they were all white meat.
Season the meat. Unlike beef, turkey can be somewhat lacking in flavor. So, when making your turkey burgers, it's important to thoroughly season your mixture. Along with salt and pepper, try Poultry seasoning, or garlic powder and onion powder. Worcestershire sauce can give your burger tons of flavor
Non-stick the grill or pan. Whether you're grilling your turkey burgers on a grill or frying them in a skillet, you want to do everything to make sure they don't stick. You can do this by brushing some oil on the grill's rack, or the bottom of the skillet
I’ve even made patties with a bit of bread crumbs and an egg mixed in. Mixed together like a meatloaf consistency.
In a bowl, add a well-beaten egg to the ground turkey. Ground turkey tends to be drier than ground beef, so the egg helps to hold the burger patties togethe
Pour in some breadcrumbs. To add flavor to the turkey burger, you can use flavored breadcrumbs or croutons. Add 1/4 tsp. each of salt and pepper.
Season the ground turkey. Add a 1/4 tsp. each of marjoram, sage and minced garlic. You also can opt to use rosemary or any other seasoning you enjoy
Mix the ingredients together and shape the ground turkey into patties.
You can grill it or cook it in a skillet. Whichever way you cook the turkey burger, remember to give the pan or grill a light coating of non-stick spray.
PRAYERS
Dear God, let us live in your will so that we will be examples and guides for those around us. May they become faithful believers as we support and love them
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AMEN
AROUND HOME
All is quiet here at home. I’ve been trying to get a little extra rest so I don’t feel so tired out on the weekends, so have been heading upstairs at least a half hour earlier in the evenings. We’ll see if that helps at all.
I think a little fresh air and sunshine would do me a world of good but with the colder weather you know where I’ll be…that’s right inside for sure.
FAMILY
A house is a house is a house
until love comes through the door, that is.
And love intuitively goes around sprinkling that special brand of angel dust
that transforms a house into a very special home for very special people:
your family.
Money, of course, can build a charming house,
but only love can furnish it with a feeling of home.
Duty can pack an adequate sack lunch,
but love may decide to tuck a little love note inside.
Money can provide a television set,
but love controls it and cares enough to say no
and take the guff that comes with it.
Obligation sends the children to bed on time,
but love tucks the covers in around their necks
and passes out kisses and hugs (even to teenagers!).
Obligation can cook a meal,
but love embellishes the table
with a potted ivy trailing around slender candles.
Duty writes many letters,
but love tucks a joke or a picture or a fresh stick of gum inside.
Compulsion keeps a sparkling house.
But love and prayer stand a better chance of producing a happy family.
Duty gets offended quickly if it isn't appreciated.
But love learns to laugh a lot
and to work for the sheer joy of doing it.
Obligation can pour a glass of milk,
but quite often love will add a little chocolate.

If in our daily life we can smile, if we can be peaceful and happy, not only we, but everyone will profit from it. This is the most basic kind of peace work
