ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 14TH, 2010
It's THURSDAY…
I think pictures are working for me today so I’ll be putting a few in today. I am not able to add them to my journal pages on blogger but will insert some graphics there instead.
I’m thinking the pictures are too high a resolution to insert them there using this wireless internet. I’ll figure it all out, but it’ll just take a little time.
I did find out that using my port hub when inserting the internet card gave me a better connection so that is one good thing.
THINKING
As we grow in our prayer life, we gradually come to a point where we spend less time speaking and more time listening. We let God set the agenda. We trust that he knows our needs, so we don’t keep telling him about them
God longs to speak to us. He is only waiting for us to quiet down enough to listen.
The Lord called to Samuel
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There's nothing like a steaming bowl of hot soup on a cold winter's day
Homemade chicken soup - which, with its decongestant properties, is arguably the best kind of soup to combat sniffles on
a wintry day
10 cups cold water
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
juice of 1 lemon
1 cup rinsed white o
r brown rice
8 oz rinsed, chopped fresh mushrooms, either button or wild
1/2 tsp tarragon
Salt and pepper
to taste
Optional lemon juice, other fresh or dried herbs, other fresh vegetables
Rinse the chicken breasts and dice them into 1/2" pieces. Sauté the diced chicken with the olive oil over medium heat in the soup pot until just white. Add the water all at once, turn the heat to high, and b
ring to a boil
Add the lemon juice, rice, mushrooms, and tarragon. Return to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, up to two hours. The longer, the better
Add additional lemon juice toward the end of cooking, if you prefer a stronger lemony flavor and a larger dose of vitamin C. Then add salt and pepper to taste
I like carrots and ce
lery in mine.
PRAYERS
Here, Lord, is my life.
I place it on the alta
r today.
Use my life as you will
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisd
om for their
commanders.
Lord, hold
our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they
perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS YOU!
And Please join me for praying too for all those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti.
AROUND HOME
It’s good that we are over the hump of the week and on our way downhill to the weekend. It seems I’ve been very busy but the days have been long and cold.
The blessing of it all was seeing the sunshine come out. Today we may see a little more but freezing drizzle was in the forecast for later tonight or tomorrow.
We get above freezing and we get rain instead of snow or a wintry mix.
We’ll see…
