ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
JANUARY 16TH, 2010
It's SATURDAY…
I got the modem for my internet cable returned after work yesterday so this morning I don’t have to rush out to return that. As a matter of fact I don’t have to rush off for anything today. So far so good with my new wireless internet. Just a few minor problems but I think that is all due to low reception in the area where I live. DS#5 was over the other evening and even tried walking out to the front sidewalk and the reading was still on the low scale.
I’m just enjoying the good coffee and relaxing a bit here this morning.
It feels so great.
THINKING
The headlines may say the economy is less than healthy. A glance at my checkbook may indicate that my financial situation is less than ideal. But these do not measure my true wealth. Our true wealth lies in the power of God within us
If we have humble, contrite hearts, we will have victory over every problem, even those not our fault. For those with the heart of Christ, God works all things, even bad things, together for their good.
Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you
1 Peter 5:7
NEW IN THE KITCHEN
January is National Soup Month so I have another soup recipe for you today
Ham and Bean Soup
1 ham bone with some meat left on 2 cups Navy, Northern beans or mixed beans arge onion, chopped n high for 4 hours or so, then switch to low and continue to cook. You want the beans to be done, but not mushy. Add more water if needed to make it a soup consistency as it cooks. Cut the meat off the bone and put in with the beans and remove the bay leaf before serving |
PRAYERS
Jesus, gentle and humble of heart, make my heart like Yours
Amen
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as th
ey protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
GOD BLESS Y
OU ALL!
Please continue to pray for the people of Haiti. We pray that the relief effort will have maximum effect and we also pray that those who need help most will get it
AROUND HOME
We are still enjoying temps above freezing here. There has been a little drizzle but no rain to speak of so that is a good thing. They say we might get lucky later today and see the sun peak out at us this afternoon. I do hope so.
I stopped by the library after work yesterday and found it was already closed and there was a sign posted on the door that said NEW HOURS, but I didn’t get out of the car to see exactly what they were. Going to the library is one of my money saving things I’m doing this year. Buying up to 10 books in a month’s time can add up so I’m going to borrow them from our public library instead. Now I have to find out exactly what those new hours are.
FAMILY
This week I got a 20 dollar winning lottery tic
ket in the mail…I’d sent it to DS#2 for stocking stuffer for Christmas and when he found it was a winner, he said for me to cash it and take myself out for lunch. I’ll enjoy that lunch – Thank You!
That was a pleasant surprise for sure!

Hope your weekend is enjoyable. It is flying by here. Funny you mention "ham and bean soup"...well we had bean soup and then had ham on the side. lol Almost the same. And it sure is good. George had a bag of 7 different beans that he soaked and then made soup with yesterday. It was very tasty. Nice to have dinner cooked for 3 days. We'll end up doing the last of the ham in a mac n cheese dish. Hope you get the wireless internet going like it is supposed to be. It can be hairy sometimes. I have a friend, Barbara, who is having trouble since hooking hers up. I don't know enough about it to help but she's ordering a person (lol) to come look at it. Have a nice evening.
