The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.
Slightly adapted from one of my morning devotionals
Life is a special occasion!
Today is National Day of the Cowboy which was started as a way to contribute to the presevation of America’s rich cowboy heritage.
The word cowboy comes from the Spanish word vaquero meaning someone who managed herds of cattle on horseback. The era of the cowboy began after the Civil War in the heart of Texas. Cattle were herded long before this time, but in Texas they grew wild and unchecked.
As the country expanded, the need for beef in the northern territories, and states increased. With nearly 5 million head of cattle, cowboys moved herds on long drives to where the profits were. As settlers claimed their land in the Southwest, the cowboy tradition quickly picked up by aspiring ranchers in the U.S.
Early cowboys were often looked as outlaws. However, this misrepresentation of the hard working values they had. The life of a cowboy required a particular ability to live in a frontier world. To do so requires respect, loyalty and a willingness to work hard. After the the dust settled, it revealed the stoic truth of the cowboy or cowgirl.
Celebrate today and enjoy a western novel or movie, attend a rodeo and embrace the cowboy way of life.

It doesn’t seem very long ago that I told you about cowboys. They were a symbol of the Wild West. Today is their special day to be honored. When we were in San Antonio to see the River Walk, we saw signs about the day of the Cowboy being celebrated.
The River Walk was amazing. Along with some very good food, we learned about the history of Texas. Even though I was pushed around in my wheel chair, I still had to do considerable walking. The place is on different levels and the only way you get there is by doing lots of steps to cross over bridges. But it was well worth it to me to see everything.
Today is basketball Saturday again. My grandsons team is undefeated. He doesn’t want to miss this game and although we have company, they will be also coming with us to see him.
They had planned to do the waterpark after seeing the River Walk, but that never happened. The River Walk takes a lot of time and we didn’t want to leave without seeing all the sights. It’a definitely a all day trip.
Unknown to me previously, it is part of a large mall area and we also did some shopping. There were restaurants and stores all along the walk itself too so we ate well and looked at everything.
They had a Marqueritaville Restaurant so that is we ate. Jimmy Buffet was a favorite of mine, so I didn’t mind at all. I only wish I’d taken more pictures of it all.
The pictures today are from a pop up book I used to have here for the grand babes to look at and see some cowboys at work.
The water park is still on their agenda today but they are going this morning and returning home to go to the game which is this afternoon.
We had rain overnight and it’s very cloudy with a chance of more rain today. So I’m hoping they don’t get rained out.
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters and EMT’s.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
We ride and never worry bout the fall. Guess that’s just the cowboy in us all.

Sorry I could only find one picture of the book in my photo archives, but you can still get the gist of today Celebrate the cowboys of America.
Glad you had a nice time. Happy cowboy day to you. I am happy you have a wheelchair and were able to see everything. I liked Jimmy Buffet too.
I'm delighted to hear you all had a good time at the River Walk.
Fingers crossed your grandson's team put another win on the board!
