ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FRIDAY, JULY 2ND, 2021
The moments our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is I Forgot Day which is not just a day for events you have already forgotten, the day is to remind you of those events that you might forget in the future. There are many events that can be easily forgotten, such as birthdays or anniversaries. This holiday was created by Gaye Anderson.
Forgetting refers to apparent loss of information already stored in an individuals long term memory. It is a spontaneous or gradual process in which old memories are unable to be recolled from memory storage. Problems with remembering, learning and retaining new information are a few of the most common complaints of older adults.
Failing to retrieve an event does not mean that this event has been forever forgotten. This could just mean the information was not encoded well. Research has shown that there are few health behaviors that to some extent can prevent forgetting from happening so often. One of the simplest ways to keep the brain healthy is to stay active and exercise.
If you can't see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The only way I can remember things these days is to take lots of notes and keep my calendar up to date. The problem I sometimes have is making sure to read them. I try to write everything down and check my lists daily. But I’m only human and sometimes I do forget.
I don’t have a lot on my schedule, but when something important like a doctor’s appointment comes up I set up reminders on my phone and with the with the help of Alexa I usually remember what to do and when. Alexa is found on an Echo Dot, which my children gave me as gift several years ago . All I have to do is say Alexa remind me and she will. It’s good to have all these aides to help me with my memory. Otherwise I’d be a hopeless case.
It’s Friday and my day to cook. I have a list with my menu on it so I don’t forget.
On today’s menu is :
Summer Shrimp Salad
Makes 4 servings
21 to 25 shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/4 cup olive oil
10 sprigs frsh thyme
4 clove garlic, minced
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 English cucumber , diced
3 tomatoes, chopped
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
plus more for garnish
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Toss shrimp with oil, thyme, garlic on a rimmed baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt an pepper. Bake until shrimp are pink and firm, about 8 to 10 minutes. I will do these in the air fryer which is convenient for me. I’m doing a lot more in it these days.
Transfer the shrimp to a large bowl, discard thyme and garlic. Add lemon juice and stir to coat. Gently stir in tomatoes, cucumber and basil. Arrange the shrimp and vegetables in a serving bowl. Serve drizzled with any dressing left in the bowl and garnish with more basil.
This will make a light meal for me which is very good for the summertime weather we are having. I’ll have crusty roll and butter along with it.
I didn’t have fresh basil so substituted an Italian blend of dried herbs I had on hand
Another way I have of keeping memories fresh is by all the pictures in my album mostly provided by my family. That is what the pictures are of today. Some of my favorite memories.
I hope you have a FANTASTIC Friday!

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time.

Good memories are worth living over and over.
I've always had a hard time remembering things, even when I was young. I write everything down too. My shot term memory is way worse than my long term memory! Your dinner tonight is a perfect summertime meal. Have a wonderful 4th of July weekend Ma! :)
It sounds like a good plan you've put in place! I've not asked Alexa to do much more than play music or set the timer ... not sure why. Instead, I totally rely on my ticker (trace) file. Within the first hour of waking up I go check it to see what needs done.
Hope you're enjoying a nice evening!
Oops! That should read 'tickler', not 'ticker.'
