ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR TUESDAY, MAY 19TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Nationaal Devil’s Food Cake Day which celebrates this delicious dessert which is considered the counterpart to the classic white angel food cake. Devil’s food cake has a unique light and moist texture, which sets it apart from other chocolate cakes. The recipe calls for a bit of baking soda and boiling water instead of milk. Both of these ingredients contribute to the fluffiness of this confection.
Devil’s Food cake first appeared in the United States in the 1900’s It is similar to Red velvet cake and the names are often interchangeable in some parts of the country. To celebrate today, make some divine cake to have for dessert tonight.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Devils Food? You can only eat so much white cake, my friend.
Christopher Moore
I have devil’s food cake recipe to share today, but I’ve not made it yet. It sounds good so I’ll be making it soon. Right now a whole cake is just too much for me to eat alone I’ll wait till I have someone to share it with.
Easy Devil’s Food Cake
Cake:
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
2/3 c. vegetable oil
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa powder
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
Frosting
1/2 c. butter
2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1/3 c. cocoa powder
2 tsp vanilla
2 c. powdered sugar
2/3 c. sour cream
For cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 8 inch diameter cake pans with 1/2 inch sides. Whisk first 5 ingredients in large bowl to blend. Sift in flour, cocoa, and baking soda. Stir to combine. Divide batter between prepared pans. Bake until toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool pans on racks 10 minutes. Turn cakes out onto racks and cook completely.
Place one layer on plate and speed with 1/2 cup of frosting. Top with second layer. Spread top and sides with remaining frosting.
For frosting: Melt butter and chocolate in a small sauce pan over low heat.Stirring constantly until smooth. Transfer to large bowl . Whisk in cocoa powder and vanilla. Whisk in 1 cup sugar and 1/3 cup sour cream. Whisk in remaining 1 c sugar and gradually enough of remaining sour cream to form a spreadable frosting.
Today there is only a slight chance of rain so maybe we’ll finally start drying out. The grass is growing like crazy and I need to cut the grass as soon as it’s dry enough. I’m hoping that by Thursday, the deed will be done. I never complain about yard work. I need the exercise. The only problem here has been too much rain.
The pictures today are of our Precious One. She got a new bike this week and wanted me to see it. She had learned to ride without training wheels on her old bike, but she’d out grown it. So now she can ride like a pro on her bigger bike.
I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU!

A new bike is very exciting !
Your Precious One is growing up so quickly. She must have been on Cloud #9; and I think that's pretty neat that she wanted you to see her riding. I'm going to show this recipe to Tom … devil's food is his favorite. (But I don't think either of us knew about the ingredients difference. Interesting!)
She looks great riding that bike! Glad the weather is nice for her to be outside to enjoy it! I love any type of chocolate cake and brownie.
