ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR FRIDAY, MAY 8TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Have a Coke Day which honors the largest nonalcoholic beverage company in the world. The Classic Coke beverage we all know and love is sold in more than 200 countries and over 1.8 billion glasses of Coke are served every day. CocaCola was named after the coco leaves that originally provided it’s flavor.
John Pemberton invented Coca Cola in the late 1800’s and it was originally intended as a medicine syrup to alleviate fatigue and headaches. The beverage was still largely unknown when he died in 1888. After buying the secret recipe for $2,300.0, Asa Candier found the Coca Cola Company and turned it into a household name.
To celebrate today, enjoy a tall glass of your favorite variety of Coca Cola !
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
In our opinion, Coke is great from a can, still good from a bottle, yet hard to just right from a fountain. But, oh, when they do get it right, it tastes good enough to be the eighth wonder of the world.

After I graduated from high School, my very first job was working for a Coco Cola bottling plant here in my hometown. I got to count out, by hand, the daily takings from the vending machines that our men filled on their jobs. We didn’t have any automatic change counters back then. It was all done by hand. I was an assistant to our bookkeeper and learned a lot the year I worked there. I lost that job when the bookkeeper got a book keeping machine and the fun thing is, after that I moved on to my 2nd job which was s bookkeeper at a bank. I ran a bookikeeping machine that kept track of checking accounts. This was before computers became so popular.
Bookeeping has pretty much been my career, Every job I had included some kind of it. After the bank I was home for 12 wonderful years and kept the household books. Then I became a school secretary and kept the books for the tuition that came in . It was a private church school and tuition was paid, it wasn’t free like the public schools. Then I became an office manager for a contractor and kept the books there too. That was all done on the computer. Now I’m retired, there is very little bookkeeping required It comes and it goes….
I don’t drink many cokes any more, I’m hooked on bottled water. Disante is my favorite. I still enjoy iced tea and lemonade in the summertime, but mostly I just drink water. They say it’s good for us and we should drink 8 glasses a day for our health.
The only time I buy coke any more is when I have company come in. Then I usually have some leftover so I wind up drinking that. It is refreshing to me when served over ice. Or I might get one when ordering out as part of a burger meal. I’ve also found it tastes really well wien served with pizza. Water just doesn’t do it then.
I hope you have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday! Enjoy a Coke!

You had a great career Ma! Neat too with on the job training! I used to drink a diet coke every afternoon around 3 o'clock but broke that habit about 10 years ago. Now I have an occasional diet coke with fast food. Water is my drink of choice with lemon in it.

What an interesting career history, Ma! My hubby is a BIG fan of Coca-Cola. I can't really tell the difference between it and Pepsi (blasphemy, right?), and preferred Diet Dr. Pepper. Not sure why I gave up carbonated beverages - like Betty, about 10 years ago. Now, my beverages of choice are coffee and room-temp Dasani.
One of my most enjoyable jobs was working for a two-man CPA firm. While I was never a 'full-charge' bookkeeper, I did books and payroll for 3-4 clients each month -- all done by hand in those heavy Wilson Jones ledgers. Good times, but it sure called for attention to detail, didn't it? To this day if someone can't make sense of an arithmetic problem, I'm likely to ask, "Is it divisible by 9?"
Asa Candler. Mu hubbie's grandfather was supposedly a cousin of Mr. Candler ...but none of the wealth rubbed off on our side of the family, for sure! I prefer Pepsi, as Coke seems too sweet and too bubbly! But, stick to caffeine free tea or water. Thanks for history lesson today. Have a great weekend and stay warm! And, safe.
