ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, MAY 17TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Cherry Cobbler Day which honors this baked dessert made with fruit filling and a biscuit dough crust. Back in the 19th century pioneers of the American west had to adapt many recipes because of the severe lack of ingredients. The tradition pie evolved into the cobbler which was often served as the main dish of the meal.
No one knows how cobblers got their name, but there are several theories One sources suggests that the word cobbler evolved from the comelier which was a specific type of wooden bowl used in cooking. Other culinary historians believe the name may have been inspired by the desserts resemblance to a cobblestone.
To celebrate National Cherry Cobbler Day, bake your own delicious cobbler and serve it as the main course for dinner tonight.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Life is just a bowl of cherries, don’t take it serious, its mysterious.
Life is just a bowl of cherries, so live and laugh and laugh at love.
love a laugh, laugh and love.
Bob Fosse
I like the idea of dessert for dinner so I’ll be making up a cherry cobbler today. I found the recipe below to use.
Easy Cherry Cobbler
1/4 c. butter
1 c sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1 c. milk
1 can cherry pie filling
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter in a 9 by 9 baking dish and set on oven rack to melt. Remove the baking dish from the oven as soon as butter has melted.
In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, sugar and baking powder. Stir in milk and then pour into the baking dish with melted butter. Do not stir.
Next pour cherry pie filling evenly into to pan. Do not stir.
Bake cherry cobbler for 50 to 60 minutes, until the sides pull away from the edges of the pan and cake is golden brown. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream
This will make a perfect addition to my leftover hotdog chili bake that I made yesterday . The picture is shown above. It is delicious by the way. I made it in my cast iron skillet instead of transferring it to a baking dish. I also made a dish of macaroni salad to have with it. All make for some good eating this weekend.
Well this Sunday is one of the many done with church services streaming on the internet, but on the bright side they say that before the end of the month we’ll be able to go back to church once more with restrictions. They’ve decided to have services in the gym of our church hall which will give more room for social distancing. This is one place I’ll be happy to get back to, even if it isn’t like it used to be
I remember going to the country church my grandparents went to where at best they only had 4 or 5 families in attendance. They had no problem with plenty of empty space Our Sunday school class was held in a few of the front pews. Lots of good memories of church over the years, but times have changed. Now I go to services that usually have 300 or so people. And there are 3 services to choose from each Sunday and even a choice to go on Saturday evening instead of Sunday if I wanted to. One thing remains true for me. Sunday is made for church and I’m thankful to finally able to get back there. It’s not been the same without it.
It’ll be a relaxing day for me. Dinner will be easy. Heat up the leftovers and make this easy recipe. I hope to eat out on the porch as it will be warm but there are more chances of rain coming our way so it’ll be good to be under cover anyway. My yard has been flooded from all the heavy rains we got on Friday. It doesn’t look like it will be dry out there for quite awhile. See the picture below. That pink spot is my finger which accidentally got in the way.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!

Relax and enjoy your Sunday !
That cobbler looks so delicious!
I love how, instead of bemoaning the situation (and one another), church leaders are seeking out-of-the-box solutions for in-person worship. How great it must feel to have that to look forward to.
I, too, have been 'attending' church services on line. Just this morning our Pastor Janet said this (streaming) will continue for a while longer. Built in 1848(?), our little church just can't guarantee social distancing.
Wow that was a lot of rain! Yum on the cherry cobbler. How interesting with the thoughts of what the word cobbler came from. Our church has not announced a reopening date yet. I don't think it will be soon though I think we have enough space to socially distance. We have 2 services that have combined about 75 to 100 people. I am sure there will be some that will continue to watch online and not come back to the church building once it reopens. I am not sure what they will do with the nursery as the majority of us volunteers for it are over 60 years old. I am not sure how many parents will want their babies held too by "strangers". You know what I mean. So lots of prayer going into that indeed. Have a great Sunday Ma!
