ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 13TH, 2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Apple Pie Day which is the quintessential American dessert. However apple pie wasn’t actually invented in the U.S. Rather it was invented in Europe sometime during the 14th century. The first apple pie recipe ws printed by Geoffrey Chaucer in 1381 in England. The ingredients in the recipe included apples, spices, figs, pears and saffron which was all enveloped in a pastry crust.
Several Dutch apple pie recipes date back to the late 15th century. They were similar to the English recipes, except that they added a scoop of ice cream placed on top before being served. This tradition of apple pie ala mode eventually caught on in America. Today, many people continue to enjoy their warm apple pie topped with ice cream.
Today celebrate by baking or buying an apple pie and don’t forget the ice cream!
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I do have some apples here thanks to DS#5. They had extra so he shared some with me. So I put together a pie yesterday. I had a recipe to try that was pretty simple to make.
Impossible Apple Pie
Filling:
3 cups sliced peeled apples
1tbsp cinnamon
1./4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. Bisquick mix
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 tbsp butter softened
2 eggs
Streusel:
1/2 c. Bisquick mix
1/4 c. chopped nuts
1 c. packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. firm buttter
Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a 9 inch pie plate. In a medium bowl, mix apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Place in pie plate.
In a medium bowl, stir remaining filling ingredients until well blended. Pour over apple mixture in pie plate. In small bowl mix all streusel ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling.
Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes. Store in refrigerator.
Today is looking like the better day of the week with temps in the upper 50’s and sunshine, so I’m hopefully going outside and cutting the grass for the first time this year. It’s to be mostly sunny. Tomorrow it will be warmer at 75 degrees they say but will have an 80 percent chance of rain So I best get done while its dry out. After a weekend of rain it will be while before it’s dry enough to do so again.
Meanwhile I have workers out side putting in a new gas meter this morning. I don’t know why but my gas will get shut off for a while and when they’re done, the gas company will be coming out and checking everything when the gas gets turned on again. Thank goodness it’s to warm up today.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Benjamin Franklin
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
8099 for apples good and good for you too.
8100. for a dry day to cut the grass
8101. for sunshine, it always makes me feel good
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Every thought is a seed. If you plant crab apples, don’t count on harvesting Golden Delicious.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away !
I didn't know that about the apple pie from Germany. Interesting! Hope the gas meter repair goes well. Thankfully it wasn't in the middle of winter! Good exercise to cut the grass! Lots of fresh air!.

That does look like a simple pie recipe! That's Tom's favorite, and I can envision myself trying to snitch off all the streusel. It won't be long now before we dare not turn on the oven.
PS - PLEASE please be very careful out mowing, Ma! Once, when my mother went out to mow -- something she did regularly -- she accidentally amputated two of her fingers. Sorry, but I've been paranoid about that potential ever since.
