Today is National Hamburger Day which honors an American staple of the our diet for decades.  Americans eat almost 50 billion burgers a year, that’s the equivalent of 3 burgers a week for every person in the US. 

Although hamburgers originated in Hamburg , German, eating a burger on a bun is actually an American tradition. The hamburger as we know it was most likely invented in Seymour, Wisconsin. Each year the city hosts a hamburger festival called Burger Fest.  That is where the largest hamburger made its debut in 2001.  It weighed 8, 266 pounds.  

To celebrate today, grill up some tasty burgers or tonight.  Don’t forget about all the delicious ways you can customize your burger.  Add bacon, ketchup, lettuce tomatoes, mayo and your other favorite fixings.  

If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side

We all need to make time for a burger once in a while.

I like cheese on burgers then topped with lettuce, onion, tomato and mayonnaise.  Sometimes Like to put bacon on my burger too, so the recipe for today is for a 

Bacon Burgers

1 1/2 lb ground beef

1/2 c. onion, finely chopped

2 slices bacon, finely diced

1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 1/4 c. breadcrumbs 

1 egg

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp pepper

2 tbsp flour

2 tbsp. vegetable oil.

Optional: hamburger buns, toasted or not

Optional: toppings and condiments, as desired

Combine ground beef, onion, bacon, worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper.  Mix with hands until blended.

Shape the ground beef mixture into  4 to 6 burgers and dust them lightly with flour.

Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.  Cook for 7 to 10 minutes on each side or until desired doneness.

You could also grill them. broil them  or bake them if you choose. For bacon Cheeseburgers , place a slice of cheese on each burger 1 minute before they’re ready.  

This time of year I eat more burgers than any other time it seems.  They make a good lunch or dinner. It’s nice to change up the way I make them. Variety is the spice of llfe they say.

Once again DD is delivering my groceries today.  She’s been ordering her groceries on line from Walmart and then all she has to do is pick it  up at the store.  They come out and put them right in her trunk and then she brings mine over.  I’m in no hurry to get out and do my own shopping and will continue to let her do it for me as long as she wants.

She says she doesn’t mind as she is shopping on line and it saves her a lot of time.  She no longer has to walk the isles of the store and choose what she wants then go through the process of unlaading her cart and checking it all out.  It’s all ready for her to take home when she picks it up at the store.  

Neither of us has had a problem with what they pick out for our order.  They do a good job of it. I’m really getting quite spoiled and appreciate her doing this for me.
