ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day which is observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of his birthday, January 15th. We celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., who devoted his life to the pursuit of justice and equality for all.
January 21st is also National Hug which is a day to embrace your loved ones to show your love and affection. Scientific studies have discovered that hugs are incredibly good for us. Hugs can lower your blood pressure, trigger the release of healthy hormones , and relieve stress. Doctors recommend a minimum of 4 to 6 hugs per day for our emotional and physiological well being, but more is always better.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Everybody needs a hug. It changes your metabolism.
Leo Buscaglia
Because today is a federal holiday, it will be a day off work for many. The banks will be closed and the mail won’t be delivered. Schools are also closed and that is a good thing for us as it gives people another day to get the snow cleared. But many will go back to work as usual.
After a very snowy and bitter cold weekend I’m back to normal here too. Today I’m going to focus on my cluttered desk top. I have a basket on it that is filled and over flowing. I keep things there like my address book, my postage stamps and mail I want to keep. It’s definitely time to clean it out.
Todays photos are some I received from DS#4 and his wife, who live out of state and much further south that we are, and just what I needed on a cold winter day. Maybe they’ll help you to warm us a bit too.
Thankfully my snow is now cleared and I could go out the driveway if I wanted. I’m very grateful for the help I got. But there is no need to go out so I’m staying in and keeping warm. I have leftover soup for lunch but I need to fix something for dinner. I had picked up some frozen crab cakes at the grocery store so I guess that is what will be on the menu. It’s an easy go to meal to fix and I’ll be having them with a spinach salad. The recipe below is made for a crowd. But I’m only one so I’ll be cutting it down.
Spinach Salad with Hot Bacon Dressing
8 c. Fresh Spinach
2 hard boiled eggs
8 slices bacon
2 tomatoes cut in wedges
4 tbsp. bacon drippings
1/2 c. cider vinegar
2 tsp sugar
Oregano, thyme and rosemary to taste
Cook bacon, keep drippings. Clean and tear up spinach into salad size pieces. Chop eggs, Crumble bacon. Toss spinach, egg, bacon and tomatoes. in a salad bowl. Heat remaining ingredients in a pan. Pour directly on salad and toss.
Be careful, be safe, and keep warm today!
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!

ADVICE FOR TODAY
Every day you should reach out and touch someone. People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Living alone as I do, I don't get the daily requirement of hugs, but try to make up for it when we get together. Here's a ((HUG))) for you today. Happy Monday!
Sending a hug back your way, Ma! Great pictures of the family enjoying some sunshine and warm weather! We're supposed to be in the low 70's after today for the rest of the week. Looking forward to that.
Hubby's usual over an hour commute was significantly shorter going to work this morning. Lots of people having a 3 day weekend. DIL's company is closed today so she is having an extra day off too. In a few minutes I'll be starting my work day, LOL.
Paper always seems to accumulate. I have to go through the copy piles of paper stuff we have here and declutter it sometime.
betty
Hugs right back to you, Pam! Those are such cute pix of your son and family! Must admit, as much as I (claim to) enjoy Winter, I don't think I'd be strong enough to endure your temps! So thankful it's not necessary for you to be out and about in those conditions. Retirement rocks!
Sweet photo of your family!
