ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day which is an opportunity to enjoy a traditional cherry dipped in chocolate. Chocolate covered cherries are a well known confectionary classic that can be enjoyed all year round, but are especially popular during the Holiday months.
Chocolate covered cherries can be made in a variety of ways. A popular variety is a cherry cordial, which is filled with a cherry liqueur filling. Other varieties include the simple and traditional cherry dipped in chocolate. What ever variety you fancy, be sure to pick up a box today!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
On the Tenth Day of Christmas, My True Love Gave to Me:
Ten Lords a Leaping!
For today’s gift, I have a recipe for Kings Cake which is an important food tradition throughout the Carnival season. The festivities begin on January 6th, Twelfth Night. The day commemorates the visit of the Three Wisen Men of the east to baby Jesus. Each cake has a little doll or baby hidden inside. Traditionally the person receives the portion of the cake with the baby is designated host for the next party and provides the next cake.
The cake itself is like a coffee cake shaped into a ring and decorated with sprinkles of sugar colored purple gold and green, the traditional colors of Mardi Gras. Purple stands for justice, green for faith, and gold for power.
Quickie King Cake
Frozen bread dough
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 stick butter, softened
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. powdered sugar
Few drops milk or water
Colored sugars
Plastic baby
Thaw bread dough. Rollout into a large rectangle, spread with softened butter. Combine cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle evenly over dough. Roll up the down making a long tube. Twist and then place on an oiled pan with ends of roll meaning to form an oval. Bake at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes
Hide the baby after baking. Combine powdered sugar with just enough milk or water to spread. Ice hot King cake. Decorate with colored sugar.
I’ve never made one for myself but have been able to purchase them to have on January 6th. They are delicious and very festive.
I’ve already told you about my love for chocolate covered cherries, which is a Christmas tradition that I keep here in my house. I’ve only a very few left right now, but on the bright side they will be readily available through Valentines Day.
I managed to clean up a bit yesterday, slowly but surely things will be back to normal here. I put the snowflake tablecloth on the table and have some snowflakes to decorate the windows too. I wanted to have the grand babes decorate the windows when they were here for New Years Day, but couldn’t find them so now that job is left to me.
Today I’m off to run some errands and do some shopping. It’s to be cold out but partly sunny so that is a good thing!
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we didn’t not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
Anne Bradstreet
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Changes are a constant in our lives...not all are good.
Its cold out here in Phoenix this morning. We woke up to it being 32 degrees! I'm looking forward to the high 60s and low 70s forecasted for next week.
I have heard of that king's cake. That would be fun to do to see who got the baby in their piece. We do like chocolate covered cherries here too. Might have to get a box of them for Valentine's Day.
betty
It's cold here too, MA, but the sun is blazing.... so all is right in my world. :-) I love chocolate covered cherries. They are one of the sweets I really do miss, being a diabetic. But that's ok cos I had plenty of them for the 60 years before I couldn't have them anymore. :-) They were my mom's favorite too. I love all the pictures you post... and all the beautiful smiles. Have a good afternoon running your errands. Love, Andrea xoxo
There was quite a to-do some years ago about New Orleans' king cakes. I wasn't so sure what, exactly, made them so special (and expensive!!!) so your detail is sure appreciated. When we were last together, one of my oldest chums reminded me of a classmate's party we attended where Mary Ann's mother baked (aluminum-foil wrapped) coins inside the birthday cake. That was great fun!
Aw, thank you for the note about still reading everyone's blogs. I don't know if this might work: (but) A little while ago I tried exiting my Blog account then went in and was able to comment as 'anonymous.'
My family never had any kind of Mardi Gras tradition, my dad absolutely would not celebrate anything during Lent. :-)
We've never done any kind of Mardis Gras celebration either, but the people I used to work for did the Mardis Gras in Mobile every year. Loving all the photos of your grands Pam, they are adorable. My father loves chocolate cherries. I get him a box or two every Christmas! Thanks for all that you share Pam, the quotes, your thoughts, your recipes, positivity, etc. You are a really special lady! xoxo
