ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Three Kings Day which is also known as Epiphany. It commemorates the Biblical story of the Three Kings, Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar. They followed the bright star to Bethlehem, bearing gifts to the Christ child.
The star that guides the wise men to Christ is also a symbol Epiphany as well as the three gifts they gave: gold, fit for a king, frankincense, used to worship at the temple, and myrrh, used for embalming.
Tradition has it that this is the day when Christmas trees and decorations are taken down.
Happy Three Kings Day!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We three kings of orient are,
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star….
Taking down the tree is not a big job at all for me here. All it involves is removing the three little table top trees that I have and putting them in a storage bin. I don’t do a big tree for Christmas anymore. It’s all the other decorations that take time to remove. I also have several gifts that still need putting away that that is what is shown in the pictures today.
I pictured a few of them yesterday and today there is more for you to see. One gift I don’t have pictured is a window antenna that lets me view local TV, which is especially nice because until now all I’ve had is Netflix and Amazon Prime to watch. Another is a little Aldi key chain that has a quarter in it for using their shopping carts. Hopefully I didn’t forget any, but if you didn’t see yours pictured, please remind me. Thank you all so much!
One of my little trees and my Scentsy warmer, a gift from me to me
One of the ways I celebrate today is to do a house blessing by marking my door sills in chalk with letters and numbers: 20+C+M+B+19. The letters are latin for Christ Bless this House and also represent the first letters of the names of the wise men: Caspar, Melchoir and Balthasar. The numbers represent this year, 2019. It comes with a prayer that this home and all who dwell therein be blessed in our comings and goings for the new year.
We are still enjoying warmer weather but they say a change is coming our way by next Wednesday when we’ll be returning to our normal mid 30’s for a high.
I’m off to church as usual for a Sunday, but rest and relaxation will have to wait until the trees are packed away. By next week this time all things should be back to normal. The good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise… a favorite saying from my grandmother.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
Grandmother mug, wall flower fragrance, a Santa Stocking Spotter and yet another candle

Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Trying to be wise as the wise men today....
You did get a great assortment of gifts, Ma! We have that type of antenna to watch local channels as we got rid of cable last March. There is quite a variety of channels available to watch with it and its only a few things we miss from having cable, but a lot less expensive in the long run! We warmed up a bit with some rain last night and its supposed to be 70 on Tuesday. Looking forward to that!

What a beautiful assortment of gifts, MA. I love everything you have pictured! I used to mark the doorways with blessed chalk also.... a wonderful tradition. I think I'm going to start taking down our decorations today too. Just this morning I feel like I'm ready. My daughter-in-law got one of those Aldi keychains from her sister and I love it. I don't have one but boy oh boy, would that ever be handy. Have a wonderful Sunday. Love, Andrea xoxo
That scissor holder would be so useful in this house. They seem to go walking and hiding.
Your house blessing is a wonderful custom! I still say "good Lord willing and the creek don't rise."
I love the custom of blessing your home. How very special! You really did get a lot of presents. I love scented candles! I am always buying them when they go on sale. I like them much better than air freshener! Have a wonderful week! Thanks for all you share! xoxo
I am new and am enjoying your blog. It is refreshing and a great reminder to be thankful and to remember our troops. One of my favorite things is the three things you are thankful for because you often mention the little things like " for a nice day to get the bins out of the outdoor storage unit" There are so many things to be thankful for, we just tend to take them for granted.
