ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Make a Difference Day which is devoted to helping others by doing volunteer work in the community. The activity can be almost anything. On this day, millions of Americans participate in community improvement projects. It takes the form of cleanup, fixup, painting, and repair in poorer neighborhoods, parks and municipal facilities. It doesn't matter what project you take on. It doesn't matter whether you help a nonprofit organization, the community, your town, nursing home, a church, a food kitchen, or any other group in need. What matters is that you participate.
Remember, making a difference doesn’t have to involve a grandiose gesture, it can be as simple as buying a coffee for a coworker who’s looking down, or lunch for a homeless person just trying to get through the day. You can even donate your old clothes and blankets to shelters to help people get back on their feet and stay warm.
Make a commitment to help others for just one day. Make a difference on Make a Difference Day!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We all have ability. The difference is how we use it.
Stevie Wonder
Making a difference is something everyone can do every day. If you can make the world a better place in anyway then you are making a difference. If you can help one person with an encouraging smile or pat on the back then you will make a difference.
The pictures today are a few more of past Halloween fun for my family. They always make a difference in my life for sure. I’m sure I’ll be sharing more in the days to come.
Here at my house it’s a quiet Saturday and looks to be a even quieter Sunday. Rain is coming our way and it’s chilly out so it’s a good day for me to stay in and keep warm. There is lots to do so I’m going to keep busy as always. It will not be a boring weekend by any means.
Before the rain moved in yesterday, I managed to get the leaves mulched once again. It was some warmer with temps in the 60’s but today it’s to be in the 40’s they say.
BrrrChill!
I hope you all have a SUPER Saturday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
Today is National Chocolate Day which is a good a reason to eat more chocolate! Americans consume an average of 12 pounds per person per year.
Valentine’s Day and Easter are two of the top holidays for buying chocolate, but you can’t forget about Christmas or Halloween! However, many will argue that chocolate is best enjoyed year round.
Just in time for Halloween I found a recipe for a chocolate cake that is all treats and no tricks.
Black Magic Cake
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour
3/4 cup Cocoa
1 cup butter milk or sour milk
2 cups sugar
1 cups black coffee
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and four a fluted tube pan or a 13 by 9 baking pan.
Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a large bow. Add eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil and vanilla. Beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Pour batter evenly into prepared pan.
Bake 50 to 55 minutes for fluted tube pan or 35 to 40 minutes for rectangular pan or until a wooden tooth pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool 10 minutes then loosen cake from side of pan and remove. Cool completely and frost as desired.
Makes 12 servings.
Note: to make sour milk, use 1 tbsp. white vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup
COUNTING MY GIFTS
There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. That little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.
W. Cement Stone
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Mighty fine looking pumpkins! Brrr with your temps! Indeed a good day to stay inside and get some things done!
betty
Great pumpkin carving genes sure must run in your family!
Just this afternoon I was lamenting having to buy a quart of buttermilk, when all I'll be using (to bake) is a half-cup. My late father is the only person I knew who actually liked to drink the stuff! I never heard of making my own 'sour milk', but you can bet I'm going to give your suggestion a try next time.
