ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Frankenstein Friday celebrates he birth of Frankenstein and its creator. Frankenstein is one of the best known horror characters, dating back to the 1800's. We can't imagine the Halloween season without the presence of Frankenstein, lurking somewhere in the darkness.
Frankenstein was born in 1818 when Mary Wollenstonecraft Shelley, at the age of 21, wrote the story Frankenstein.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Imagination creates some big monsters.
Olivier Martinez
It’s hard to believe that at the story of Frankenstein is almost 200 years old now. I think most of us saw the movie rather than to have read the book, but it is definitely a classic.
The very first picture is one of my grandsons a few years ago and I usually show it on this date as it’s the only Frankenstein picture I have and besides he is such a cute little monster.
I’ve noticed that these days there are more superhero and princess costumes out there than there are scary monsters for Halloween, that is a good thing I think. Still seems we all enjoy a scary story or two especially on Halloween.
As you can see by the rest of the pictures it is really looking like fall around here and there are a lot of leaves still on the trees. I’ve been very thankful for their shade all summer and now it’s time to let the leaves fall as the trees go dormant for the winter. I’m much like those trees as I tend to hibernate most of the winter too.
I went by a farmers stand the other day to see if perhaps they had any fresh vegetables to sell and although they didn’t have much I did manage to get some acorn squash. They had lots of pumpkins, some potatoes, apples and a few peppers but that was about it. I’ll be missing the fresh fruits and veggies I’ve enjoyed for the past few months. I finally got my flu shot while I was out and about too, so I’m now prepared for the season, more or less. They say those over 65 should have a super dose, so that is what I got.
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Potato Day and I found a new recipe for Potato Soup made in the crock pot to celebrate today.
Busy Day Potato Soup
3 lbs. or about 7 cups potatoes peeled and chopped into 1 inch pieces.
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. crushed thyme
1/2 tsp. ground rosemary
6 cups chicken broth
1/4 cup flour
1 cup milk or half and half
Optional toppings: cheese, crumbled bacon, chives, green onions, parsley
Turn crock pot onto high and place potatoes, onion, garlic, spices and broth in pot. Stir to combine and cover with a lid. Cook 3 to 4 hours.
When potatoes are just barely soft, scoop out about 1/2 cup of broth and set aside. Gently mash the cooked potatoes just enough to thicken up the soup. Whisk 1/4 cup of flour into the reserved broth until smooth. Stir in 1 cup of half and half or milk and whisk again till smooth. Pour this into the crock pot and reduce heat to low. Let cook at least an hour stirring once or twice. Serve with the toppings of your choice.
Yields 4 to 5 servings

ADVICE FOR TODAY
A candy a day keeps the monsters away.
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Still quite a bit of leaves yet to fall. Need to still get my flu shot, maybe next week. I liked the recipe for that potato soup.

If a candy a day keeps the monsters away, I'm VERY well protected. :)
Your grandson makes an adorable Frankenstein. Good for you for getting your flu shot. My hubby got his, but I haven't yet. Since I have a couple of doctor's appointments in early November, I'll get it then. I'd better. We're going to visit some of the grandchildren for Thanksgiving, and they always share some kind of sickness with us. (But it's totally worth it!)
That potato soup sounds yummy. Since we're such big seafood lovers, I always add shrimp to potato soup. Darn. Now I want soup... there IS a chill in the air this morning...
Have a super weekend!
What an adorable Frankenstein!
Hopefully, I'll be able to get my flu shot soon. The first pharmacy I went to said my plan didn't allow for that (coverage). I'm trying another tomorrow and, if necessary, I'll pay out of pocket. There's too much risk of germs in airports and on planes.
