ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Halloween, or All Hallow’s Eve, which can be traced back to an ancient Celtic pagan festival called Samhain, which was celebrated over 2,000 years ago. The Celtic calendar began on November 1, and the Celts believed that as the old year faded and the new year emerged, the boundaries between the living and the dead became unstable. On the night of October 31, the spirits of the deceased could walk the earth and provoke sickness or damage crops. To combat these evil spirits and ward off wandering ghosts, the Celts built huge bonfires, left bowls of food outside their homes, and wore costumes and masks.
Although there are still plenty of ghosts and ghouls, Halloween has evolved into a secular, family friendly event. One quarter of all the candy sold in the United States is purchased for Halloween, and over 40 million children trick or treat in their neighborhood each year.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Eat, drink and be scary.

I’ve celebrated Halloween with trick or treating since my own childhood. It’s always been a fun night for the children to dress up in costumes and go door to door for some sweet treats.
Tonight I was supposed to go to DS#5’s house instead of handing out treats here at my house. They are having Taco Tuesday for dinner and that is a treat for me. However, I’m fighting a nasty head cold with lots of sneezing and blowing my nose so I think I’ll be staying at home keeping warm and cozy instead.
We’ve had a couple of nights below freezing here and the leaves are really dropping like flies. They’ve said that this week will be the peak for leaf watching in our area. It won’t be long now till the trees will be bare and I’ll miss the colors brightening these short days.
This coming weekend the time changes for us as we Fall Back one hour and loose an hour’s sleep on Sunday morning. On the bright side it will be daylight one hour earlier but then it will also be dark an hour earlier too. Our daylight hours will continue to get shorter now until the 1st day of Winter when they’ll slowly but surely get longer, minute by minute.
FIRST WARNING!
Don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour on Saturday night before you go to bed.
Daylight Savings Time ends 2:00 a.m. EST, on Sunday, November 5th.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday! Happy Hallowween!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Caramel Apple Day which is one of a collection of Candy themed holidays sponsored by the National Confectioner’s Association. Caramel apples have a long and tasty history of being created from some of the seasons favorite treats. Granny Smith’s are by far the most popular apple used in these confections, the tart tangy flavor playing an amazing counterpart to the sweetness of the caramel. The grainy texture and sweeter flavors of other apples just don’t quite bring the flavor palette together.
It only takes 15 minutes to make this gooey, luscious caramel apple dip. It's also the recipe for the perfect gift!
Caramel Apple Dip
1 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. Light Corn Syrup
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup whipping cream
1 Tbsp. sour crean
3/4 Tsp. coarse sea salt
In a 2 quart saucepan, stir together sugar, corn syrup and water. Heat over medium high heat. Do not stir. Cook about 10 minutes or until sugar turns a dark amber color.
Add remaining ingredients. Beat with a whisk until smooth. Pour into a heat prove contain. Serve with sliced apples for dipping
Makes 8 servings

ADVICE FOR TODAY
On Hallowe'en the thing you must do
Is pretend that nothing can frighten you
And if somethin' scares you and you want to run
Just let on like it's Hallowe'en fun.

Hope you feel better soon from your cold, Ma. It is cooling off here, the air conditioner didn't come on until after 3 o'clock yesterday. A record indeed!
