ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 19TH,2020
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

It is National Popcorn Day which honors the common household snack that is enjoyed by many people. Americans eat about 16 billion quarts of popcorn each year. This equates to about 51 quarts per person, which makes it one of the most popular snacks in the courtry.
Popcorn has been around for centuries and is one of the oldest snacks in the country. It is one of six main varieties of corn. . Popcorn originated in Mexico but eventually made its way to the States . In 1948 archaeologists in the state of New Mexico discovered ancient popcorn ears that were 5,600 years old. The Native Americans in both North and South America popped their corn by throwing it on hot stones over a fire.
To celebrate today, make your favorite kind of popcorn and enjoy it while watching a movie. Movies and popcorn seem to go together.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
.I’m a big fan of popcorn and have it often. I discovered the perfect way to make it years ago and have since forgone microwave pop corn. In a large covered pan, place 1 tbsp. oil. Heat the pan and add a few kernels of popcorn. When one pops it’s hot enough. Then add 1/2 c of popcorn, cover and gently shake the pan over the heat. When it stops popping it’s ready. Pour in a bowl and salt and butter to your taste. I have a well seasoned pan that is only used to make popcorn and it’s the perfect size for the recipe I use. It’ makes a perfect panful every time.
It works. My favorite pop corn is sold by the Boy Scouts as a fund raiser. It has nice big kernels that pop. No leftover unpoped kernels ever. Thanks to one of my grandsons who always lets me know when it’s Boy Scout popcorn time , I have a good supply on hand.
Pop corn is a healthy snack depending on what you add to it. It’s the additional salt and butter that makes it unhealthy. Air popped popcorn is the best. I have an air popper here, but prefer it popped in the pan although that does add the oil.
There is also a lot to be said for caramel corn and kettle corn too, which give us a sweet treat, but not as healthy as plain. They are both a tasty treat. A bowl of popcorn and a movie sounds like a good way to relax today.
We are supposed to have more snow today and it’s below freezing so it will be another good day to stay inside.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Have you ever pondered the miracle of popcorn? It starts out as a tiny little compact kernel with magic trapped inside then when agitated, bursts something marvelously desirable. It’s sort of like those tiny little thoughts trapped inside an author’s head that in an excited explosion of words, suddenly becomes a captivating fairy tale.

Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

It's a great day to stay in and pop some popcorn and watch a movie. Keep safe and keep warm!
I too like popcorn, but I go with the easier way, LOL, in the microwave. There's nothing better of a smell than to go to a movie theater and smell the popcorn right when you enter the building. Stay warm, Ma!
betty
Does your mobile home keep you toasty? We have considered buying in the North Georgia mountains as a get-away, camp, but wonder just how warm they are? Plus, we're looking at Florida mobile homes and, for sure, there would be no heating problems, just cooling, haha! Have a great popcorn/movie day and stay in, off those roads. Happy Sunday.
We had popcorn for supper night before last! I like the microwave kind (lazy, yes) because I can have mine 'nekked' while Tom enjoys his with butter and garlic salt. That's a neat initiative on the part of the Boy Scouts.
We're turning cold again, but (thankfully) dry. Please stay inside if you can.
I too love popcorn and can eat it any time anywhere. The snow is pretty and so glad you don't have to be out and about and just sit and enjoy it.
