ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is America Recycles Day which encourages people to do their part and recycle. Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees, 2 barrels of oil, 4100 kilowatts of energy, 3.2 cubic yards of landfill space, and 60 pounds of air pollution.
These environmental benefits are enough of an incentive for everyone to take part in the simple activity of recycling. By reusing the Earth's natural resources, we reduce green house gas emissions and the need to build landfills. We also ensure that these natural resources will be around for future generations to use.
The Boy Scouts of America has the right slogan for this topic: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Use it up.
Wear it out.
Make it do or do without
New England Proverb
The rocker in the picture above was made from recycled materials. It sits out in the carport where I can occasionally catch a ray of sunshine or two. It is one of many things you can find made from recyclables.
One of my favorite ways to recycle is to find old things to paint and decorate so they can be used again. Right now I’m painting old antique picnic baskets in hopes that those I give them to will use them for years to come. I’ve always had a love of picnicking. When the babes were young we had many fun times over the years going to different parks and a picnic lunch was always enjoyed by all.
My maternal grandmother was a great recycler too as she often took our clothing that we’d outgrown and cut quilt squares from them. It was a delight to see a quilt she had made that included one of your favorite dresses.
Things weren’t always as easy to obtain as the are right now and people often made use of what they had and used their creative spirit to make use of what they had available to them. We now live in a disposable society and very often things are thrown out that could have another use.
They say that today is also Clean Out Your Refrigerator day which is a great idea this time of year before the holidays come. We’ll need some extra room in the fridge for the Thanksgiving Turkey soon.
It’s supposed to rain today but that is fine with me. I got the yard work done yesterday and there is always plenty to do inside.

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Raisin Bran Cereal Day which is dedicated to one of the best known breakfast cereals.
Raising bran is manufactured by several companies under different brand names. This cereal was first invented in the 1920s. The first brand of raising bran on the market was Skinner's Raisin Bran.
Raisin bran cereal has high content of dietary fiber that benefits our health in several ways. However, some criticize Raisin Bran for containing too much sugar. The fact is that raisins naturally contain much fructose.
I love Raisin Bran cereal and usually have some in the cupboard. But there is another tasty way to use this cereal and that is by making muffins with it. That is what my recipe for today is all about.
Raisin Bran Muffins
1/2 cup oil
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
4 cups Raisin Bran cereal
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line muffin tins with paper liners.
In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine all ingredients, in order, making sure to add one cup of flour at a time. Bake for 18 minutes. Remove from oven, allow to cool for 10 minutes before transferring muffins to wire rack.
Top hot muffins with butter.
Makes 18 muffins

It is amazing that the rocker was made from recyclable material. It is good that people are finding more ways to recycle and reuse things rather than dispose of them. I know that we recycle more than we throw away here; glad the city picks up the recyclables in order to do so.

Oh, I'd love to see pictures of your olden picnic baskets! I don't recall ever having been on a picnic, but I'll bet they make wonderful décor/conversation pieces.
What I'd give for a quilt made from favorite articles of clothing! That's been on my wish list for a few years now, but I've not acted on it. Hopefully, I can find someone next year who would agree to make one at a reasonable cost.
