The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is National Parents as Teachers Day which is day to recognize that parents are a child's first, forever, and last teacher.. On this day Parents as Teachers Organization offers educational services to parents across the country. These affiliates give all parents of young children support, and it also provides information so all children learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.
The concept for Parents as Teachers developed in the 1970s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child’s development of learning skills, including reading and writing.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The most important thing that parents can teach their children is how to get along without them.
Frank A. Clark
I think that what children learn at an early age is very important. From the moment a child is born, they constantly learn new things and what they learn begins at home.
I always thought that it was my duty as parent to give my children as much education as they needed in order to become responsible adults. In that respect I think I was a success. They are all independent with homes and families of their own and do a great job of it too. My children are definitely the better part of me.
I managed to get out and take some pictures of the house and surrounding trees yesterday and that is what the pictures are of today. One tree is now almost bare and the other two have finally changed color and the leaves are falling. As this is supposed to be the nicest day of the week, I’ll be spending time outside doing some yard work today. Thankfully I do have a leaf blower and a lawn mower that mulches leaves.
Life here is not very exciting, but never boring and I’m content and that is what makes us happy.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s Cook Something Bold Day which is designed to encourage us to cook something bold and daring, that will fill up the house with warm, homey odors. It is celebrated in the month of November, as houses are closed up for the winter, and capture the cooking smells.
I fixed a small turkey over the weekend and believe me when I say the house was filled with some wonderful smells. It may not have been bold or spicy, but but it was delicious. And I’ve been enjoying the leftovers for a few days now. The remainder is going in the freezer for another day.
I found a good recipe for Turkey Soup on a bag of turkey shaped pasta years ago and it’s become a favorite of mine. So that is the recipe I’m sharing today.
Turkey Leftover Soup
7 oz. turkey pasta, I used rotini instead
10 cups chicken broth
1 onion chopped
1 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon onion salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 bay leaves
1 28 oz can diced tomatoes
2 10 oz packages frozen mixed vegetables
4 cups cubed turkey
2 Tablespoons butter
1 Tablespoon cider vinegar
In large stock pot combine broth, vinegar, onion and seasonings. Bring to a boil and add vegetables and undrained tomatoes.
Reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 10 - 12 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Discard bay leaves and stir in turkey.
Return to boil and add pasta. Reduce heat, cover and simmer about 8 minutes till pasta is cooked. Makes 8 to 10 servings.
A wise woman once said to me that there are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these she said is roots, the other, wings.
William Hodding Carter
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5419. for my children who also taught me a lot
5420. for hot soup on a chilly day
5421. for the tools to get the yard work done
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Don't worry that children never listen to you; worry that they are always watching you.
Robert Fulghum
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…
