ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

WELCOME NOVEMBER
November is Aviation History Month, Child Safety Protection Month, International Drum Month, National Adoption Awareness Month, National Caregivers Appreciation Month, National Diabetes Awareness Month, National Epilepsy Month, National Model Railroad Month, Native American Heritage Month, Peanut Butter Lovers Month and National Sleep Comfort Month.
Today is Going the Extra Mile Day which is a day to do more than normal, no matter what the area. It is a time to extend ourselves in attitude and efforts, a time to find ways to make advances in various areas of our lives. This is the right time to examine our lives and ask ourselves if this is what we want them to be.
The Extra Mile Day was started by The Extra Mile America Foundation in 2009. As a non profit organization that promotes action and a positive attitude, it designated the day to encourage citizens from all walks of life to simply, live a fulfilling, self directed lifestyle that does not constrain their potential, and that enables them to at least go the extra mile to achieve what they have always wanted.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The Extra Mile: to make an extra effort; try very hard to achieve something; to do more than expected; to make special effort
When people do more than they have to, and do so with an attitude of generosity, they give of themselves in ways that lift all of humanity. The heart grows tender when we extend ourselves beyond what’s expected. Going the extra mile is a vital ingredient that lifts our mood, allowing hopefulness to rule.
They say that it takes just a little extra to make an extraordinary person. We can all go the extra mile and make a difference by all the little things we do that are often the greatest things in life
You cannot do everything, but you can do something. Smile and enjoy the fact that you have the ability to make a difference and go the extra mile.
I’m still feeling the effects of the first cold of the season here at my house. I’ve been taking extra vitamin C and drinking lots of liquids and eating homemade chicken soup. When you are feeling miserable there is nothing like comfort food to make you feel better and chicken soup is good and good for you.
November is going to be a very busy month with lots to do and lots to celebrate as several family birthdays are coming our way along with Thanksgiving Day. This is a month for Remembrance too, as we celebrate Veterans Day. We remember not only our Veterans at this special time, but also all those we have loved and lost.
November is a month when the cold weather sets in and we appreciate the the fruits of the harvest. Whether we are farmers or not, we can give thanks for all the bounty of the year that we’ve received. We’ve had warm days in the sun and fresh fruits and vegetables and days to enjoy time with family and friends. Now we take time to remember and give thanks.
Today’s pictures are a repeat of some I’ve shown before, but the weather and sights were beautiful going through the park that day and worth another showing. The morning forecast for today said that we could see the seasons first snow flakes as a surge of moisture pulls north and into the cold air, but thankfully most of the precipitation coming our way tonight and into Thursday will be in the form of rain. We’ll see...
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Deep Fried Clams Day which is a national holiday celebrating clams dipped in milk and then flour and deep fried. While I’ve never made my own, I do love to eat fried clams. So I found a recipe to try out soon
Deep Fried Clams
2 cups saltine crackers, finely crushed
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle chile pepper or cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/8 teaspoon dried dill weed
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 10oz. can whole baby clams drained, or fresh clams, shucked
3 to 4 cups peanut oil
Preheat deep fryer to 375 degrees or heat 3 inches of oil in a Dutch oven.
Measure cracker crumbs, poultry seasoning, salt, chipotle pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and dill weed into a large zip-top bag. Toss to combine. Set aside.
Stir the clams into the beaten eggs. Using a slotted spoon, remove a few clams at a time and place in the bag of herbed cracker crumbs. Shake to coat, remove clams, and place on a platter. Repeat until all clams are coated.
Fry clams in batches, about 30 seconds, until golden brown. Take care not to crowd the clams while frying. Drain on paper towels and serve hot as an appetizer or entree.
This recipe yields 2 to 4 servings.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Do not think that love in order to be genuine has to be extraordinary. What we need is to love without getting tired. Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.
Mother Theresa
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5398. for the little extra, that makes a big difference
5399. for time to remember and give thanks
5400. for all those we’ve loved and lost, may they rest in peace
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Do not wait for extraordinary circumstances to do good action; try to use ordinary situations.
Jean Paul Richter
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

Imagine how the world would be if we all went an extra bit of a mile in how we treated other people.
Betty
It would be wonderful if we all went the extra mile, but the best we can do is lead by example and hope others follow. I hope that cold of yours is in the rear view mirror real soon.
Okay! You've convinced me. I'm not going to fry any clams, but I think steamed clams are in order for today's lunch. :)
Oh, I hope you're feeling much better by the time you see this, Ma. Absolutely, comfort food has it's own place in the Medicinal Hall of Fame! :)
Going the extra mile rarely costs much; and, like Susan said, we can serve as an example.
