ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Flag Day which is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for our flag, its designers and makers. Our flag is representative of our independence and our unity as a nation, one nation, under God, indivisible. Our flag has a proud and glorious history. It was at the lead of every battle fought by Americans. Many people have died protecting it. It even stands proudly on the surface of the moon.
As Americans, we have every right to be proud of our culture, our nation, and our flag. So raise the flag today and every day with pride!
Three cheers for the red, white and blue!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
It seems that the only way to fly my flag these days is putting it in the flower boxes I have on the carport or by the front door. Renting a house has it drawbacks and I’m missing a flag pole here. I’m not allowed to put nails or screws in anywhere, so I cannot attach a flag holder. I’m thinking of a way I might hang a flag otherwise but have come up with no good solution.
On the bright side I do have a flag lapel pin and will be wearing it proudly today, and will dress in my red, white and blue shorts and top today too. It is definitely shorts weather now. Long pants are history. Just have to keep cool these days. Capri pants are ok too, but shorts are better.
The laundry seems to have decreased by half since the advent of summer weather too. Wearing half the clothing also means half the clothes to wash. The clothes hamper doesn’t fill up quite so quickly these days.
Getting into a summer frame of mind as far as the heat goes isn’t always easy, but I’m adapting quickly. They do say that in summertime the living is easy and I’m all about living the slow life. I’ve even got of cue of books all lined up in my kindle to read on those lazy days in the shade. And I’ve found some cotton yarn too and have been knitting some red white and blue dishcloths when watching TV. That is in the picture above. My summer vacation will either be spent here at home or on a few short day trips. No big plans but keeping it slow and easy.
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Strawberry Shortcake Day and to celebrate here’s a recipe for Strawberry Shortcake Parfait.
1/3 loaf pound cake, cubed
1/2 quart strawberries, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
2 Tbsp water
Whipped cream
Combine half of the strawberries with sugar and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat to make a syrup. Mash strawberries as the mixture cooks. Cook for 10 minutes and then remove from heat to cool.
To assemble parfait, drop a spoonful of strawberry sauce into bottom of cup followed by a layer of pound cake, followed by a layer of chopped strawberries. Continue to assemble ingredients in this order until you reach the top of your parfait cup. Top with whipped cream.
Just increase the ingredients for the number of people you might be serving.
Note: you can also add some blueberries if you want that red white and blue effect.

We never put pictures up when we were renting because then you had to fill in the holes, etc. I am sure you look great today in your clothing to honor the flag. Can't believe June is almost halfway over.

I like those red/white/blue dishcloths, Ma!
Wonder if it would be possible tp put a flag pole-holder in the ground, like those 'holes' they put on golf greens?
