ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

Today is Log Cabin Day which brings back a quieter, simpler, more rugged era of history. A couple hundred years ago, life was far more rugged. Americans moving West found an untouched wilderness, filled with pristine forests. They built their homes out of logs. These log cabins were solid, long lasting, and served them well.
Life was rustic and simple. Heat was provided by an open fireplace, where they also cooked their meals.
There was no electricity and no plumbing.
Log Cabin Day celebrates what was then the Modern home in America, and all of the lifestyle that accompanied it. Today is a day to appreciate the history and significance of log cabins.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.
Jane Austen
It’s definitely a day to appreciate what I have. I have electricity and plumbing and certainly lead a more luxurious style of life than did the early settlers in our country. I am thankful for all the hard work they did in order to make our country what it is today. It might have been simpler times but definitely more rugged.
Sunday is always my day to rest and renew. Renewal for me means going to church where I always get refreshed for the week ahead. Rest is what I’ll be doing, no work allowed. Tomorrow will start another busy week.
It’s looking like the heat and humidity of the past few days is gone and it’s cooler in the 70’s again. One thing about our weather is that, just like life, it’s constantly changing.
I didn’t get out for my bike ride yesterday as planned. Instead I went to another garden center and found some plant stands for my flower boxes. These should be high enough that no critter will be able to eat my flowers. I still need to get something to put on that bottom shelf. Anyway that is what the pictures are of today. The flower boxes on the carport.
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It's National Catfish Day. It's a day to enjoy some tasty, fried catfish.
About 95% of our nation’s catfish comes from Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana. In traditional recipes, each catfish fillet is coated with a blend of spices and then fried or blackened in a cast iron skillet.
In 1987, President Reagan declared the first National Catfish Day to recognize the importance of the catfish farming industry. Most of the catfish we eat is farm raised, which is very eco friendly.
I found this recipe for Southern Fried Catfish to enjoy!
8 catfish fillets, skin removed
Salt
Old Bay seasoning
4 cups flour
1 cup cornmeal
Heat a fryer or a deep pot halfway filled with oil to 350 degrees. Sprinkle both sides of each catfish fillet with salt and Old Bay seasoning
In a separate bowl combine the flour and cornmeal. Dredge the catfish in the flour mixture and place in fryer. Deep fry for about 7 to 8 minutes until done. Drain on paper towels.
Makes 4 servings
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest.
Henry Van Dyke
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
5014. for home, a place to rest and relax
5015. for fish, delicious and good for you
5016. for changes, there are no boring days here
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Oh I love the fact that it's Log Cabin Day! I think that is a great day to have! Always loved to stay in the log cabins (modern ones, lol) in the mountains.
Hope you have a wonderful day. You have a nice little patio area. I'd love to sit and read there while you ride your bike, lol!

The flowers look very nice! I am so glad I live nowadays. I don't think I would have made a good pioneer lady in a log cabin.

My grandparents had a cottage that they lived in for years with no hot water. We had to heat the water on the stove for EVERYTHING!!!! There was no shower, so we took baths in the lake!! I loved the simplicity, but my poor Grandma hated it!!! I wouldn't be able to live like that now. Twenty years ago it was fun.
I LOVE your flower boxes. The stands are so pretty!!
Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon!
Love to you.

Those flower boxes are lovely! I think it might be fun to visit a log cabin. I'm over here, trying to imagine the wonderful aroma of fresh pine or lingering wood smoke. Ahhhh.
Like Betty said, I'd make an awful, whiny pioneer woman.
