ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!

It’s National Handshake Day! Today, we celebrate one of the most common greetings between two people.
Did you know that handshakes have been practiced since at least the 2nd century B.C.? Many researchers believe that the handshake originated in the Western world. It was a gesture of peace, demonstrated by the fact that the hands held no weapons.
Today, a handshake is offered upon meeting or parting. It is an expression of goodwill, gratitude and congratulations. Many people believe that a handshake reveals something about the character of the person who gives it. A firm handshake reflects a confident personality while a floppy handshake reveals a shy one.
Today, go ahead and give some nice, strong handshakes. Make sure not to grip too tight!

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
A hug is a handshake from the heart.

In my day a handshake was always a way to greet people and it said I’m glad to meet you. It was also a way to say good bye. Shaking hands as we left the company of others. Now a days we shake hands with those around us at church too, giving a sign of peace and saying Peace be with you. Anyway you look at a handshake is a good thing for sure.
In our family I’d say we give more hugs than handshakes. We greet each other with hugs and say good by with hugs. We hug when we’re happy and when we’re sad. Hugs are wonderful things too.
Human touch is so important. Touch is such a powerful means of communication. It is the first language we learn and it is the first sense to develop. Done appropriately, it has a profound capacity to nurture our relationships and our overall well being.
So I’m extending my hand and arms today with a sign of peace, a handshake, and a big Hug!
The pictures today are of some of my family making some happy memories this summer.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!

The first handshake in life is the greatest of all: the clasp of an infant fist around a parent's finger.

Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
If you want to touch the past, touch a rock. If you want to touch the present, touch a flower. If you want to touch the future, touch a life.

Liked all the pictures, Ma. Your son is so tall in that first picture. We too are a family of huggers.

My family is huggers too! I love your quotes. They are so uplifting!
That's a group of serious hikers there, aren't they?
Interesting stuff about handshaking. I don't know where it came from, but I'm really put off by a limp-Lizzy handshake ... most recently encountered when I met one of DH's doctors. Later, I realized, "Hey, he's a surgeon!" and guessed those fingers are pretty precious.
My boss' boss gives fist bumps instead of offering his hand. Either he's a germ-o-phobe, or trying to act cool. Ha!
