ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Today is Flip a Coin Day which is about making decisions by simply flipping a coin. Flipping coins to make decisions has a long history as it's believed to date back to ancient Rome during the reign of Julius Caesar. Nowadays, coin tossing is used in many types of sporting events to determine things like who gets first use of the ball or which end or which end of the field the teams will play. There are also times when you have no idea what you want to do, so you flip a coin. Heads you win. Tails you lose.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Reinhold Niebuhr
It would be great if all our decisions could be decided by flipping a coin. It’s easy to flip a coin to see who gets the last soda or the last piece of cake. But in the big things in life I’m not ready to let a coin decide what I want to do.
People hate making decisions. Mostly because we’re terrified of making the wrong one, Making a decision can be hard especially if there is no clearly right answer. Sometimes we make a decision based on what we know to be true and later find out it was the wrong choice. There also times we weigh the pros and cons of a thing to see what decision to make.
Every decision we make not only affects us, but the people around us. Even future generations are affected by the choices we make today. There are no guarantees that every decision will come out the way you'd like them to come out. Outcomes are not controllable. Life is a series of decisions. The key to deciding is to take courage, listen to your heart, choose your path, then go forward, without looking back.
They are saying that our sunny weather may continue on here till Sunday when a chance of rain will come our way. It’s been a wonderful reprieve from all the rainy days we’ve had. This time last week I had to dodge the rain drops when I went out to do my weekly shopping, today I get to enjoy the sunshine.
Today’s pictures are of a few more of my grand babes as the school year comes to a close.
I hope you all have a GREAT day. Happy Thursday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Hazelnut Cake Day!
Hazelnuts are incredibly delicious and exceptionally good for you too.
Hazel Nut Cake Recipe
1/2 cup butter or margarine
5 oz. hazelnuts
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Glaze
1/2 cup whipping cream
6 oz semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease bottom only of 10 inch pan with shortening or cooking spray. In 1 quart saucepan, melt butter over low heat; set aside to cool.
Reserve 8 whole nuts for garnish. In food processor or blender, process remaining nuts until ground, making about 1 1/3 cups. Reserve 1 tablespoon for garnish.
In large bowl, beat eggs, sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla with electric mixer on medium speed 2 to 3 minutes or until thick and lemon colored, scraping bowl occasionally. On low speed, beat in flour, baking powder, salt and ground nuts, scraping bowl occasionally. Continue beating, gradually adding cooled, melted butter until well blended, scraping bowl occasionally. Spread batter evenly in pan.
Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Place heatproof serving plate upside down over cake; turn plate and cake over. Cover cake with cloth towel; cool completely, about 30 minutes.
In 2 quart saucepan, heat whipping cream just to boiling; remove from heat. Stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Spread glaze over top of cake, allowing some to run down side of cake. Sprinkle reserved ground nuts around top edge of cake; arrange reserved whole nuts over ground nuts.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Life is a precious one way journey. Move forward.
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4942. for a car that still runs and takes me where I need to go
4943. for my lawnmower that once again got the job done
4944. for pleasant days, no heat or air conditioning needed
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
I love this shirt !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.
Carl Sandburg
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

It would be nice if we could make decisions by just flipping a coin. Some we can do like that, like choosing where to eat. Other decisions take lot of thinking and praying before they are made. Sunny here with temps in the 100s.

That hazelnut cake sounds wonderful!
I'm usually pretty decisive, but prone to second guess myself after the fact. Maybe that's natural, but it's nice to have another concur now and then.
As always, I enjoy your pictures!
How wonderful to be able to celebrate the end of the school year with your grandchildren. You have gorgeous grandchildren. No surprise there! I am sure they are all really nice too, how could they help but be so! I watched a really funny episode of Big Bang Theory where Sheldon made all his choices for a day by flipping a coin. I would not want to make my own decisions that way however. Like Betty, I like to think and pray about the important stuff and sometimes even the small things! Love and hugs! LIke Mevely, I too, always enjoy your family photos! xoxo
