ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Slow and steady wins the race…
There are definitely times it feels like the race is on here at my house with time speeding by so quickly. But today is a day to slow down and relax. Speed isn’t everything and for me slow and steady is best. When you live in the slow lane you get to see a lot of things you wouldn’t otherwise.
For a lot of people a long 3 day weekend is a time to get things done around the house. Gardeners like to get their plants in and some people get their swimming pools ready for the summer. Many also have family picnics or go camping for the weekend. But for me it’s a day of rest.
I’ve got my planting done, even though it was very minimal, at least I did some. The flowers are growing nicely now that I’ve put them up out of reach from whatever was eating them. I’ve made food ahead and simply have to serve it up, so there is no cooking to do and it’s looking like another rainy day.
There will be church as usual later on this morning and I’m taking it slow and easy here and sipping my good cup of morning coffee.
The pictures today are of a race car set I keep here for the grand babes…sorry I didn’t have any other pictures of racing. Ha!
I hope you all have a RELAXING Sunday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Hamburger Day!
Nothing says summertime like a big, juicy hamburger. Hamburgers and cheeseburgers have been a staple of the American diet for decades. Americans eat almost 50 billion burgers a year – that’s the equivalent of three burgers a week for every person in the United States!
There are lots of ways to make a burger and today’s recipe is just one of the many.
ALL IN ONE HAMBURGER PATTY
1 lb. ground beef
1 c. soft bread crumbs
1 egg
2 tsp. chopped dill pickle
2 tbsp. chopped onion
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. prepared mustard
Mix well and make into patties to grill, bake or fry. May also be flattened into pan, cooked and cut into squares to serve.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
It's the steady, quiet, plodding ones who win in the lifelong race.
Robert W. Service
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
4930. for Sunday, my day of rest
4931. for grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, my favorite summertime foods
4932. for a community pool to use, if I want to
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
Try not to turn your life into a race, least of all an obstacle race.
Jose Bergamin
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

That's a cute race set! I bet the grandchildren have a lot of fun playing with it! Seems like you are all prepared to have a nice relaxing day today Ma! Enjoy it!

It doesn't seem that long ago (I believed) a 3-day weekend was meant to drive far and cram so much living into that time, I'd arrive home exhausted. Glad for the experiences, but loathe to repeat them.
Hope your day is panning out exactly as you'd like!
I also love that little race set!
I always find something to learn on your blog! I just looked up Robert W. Service, what a fascinating life!
Like Kay, I love all the things you share here on the blog and I am always learning something new! I am sure the grandchildren love, LOVE coming to your place and playing with the race set. We haven't done much in the garden this year. Todd is the main gardener, and I am an armchair gardener. I like to look and appreciate the fruits of his labors, but this year he is not laboring much, which is okay. He needs to recoup his energy! Have a lovely day! xoxo
