ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
The moments of our lives may be bright with possibility, dark with fear or sadness, or even plain everyday gray, but God's glory never fades. May God's glory shine into the exciting lights, upsetting darks, and boring grays of your every day.

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is Straw Hat Day which is considered a sign of the beginning of summertime, as it was the day when men would replace their winter hats with their summer hats, which were made of straw.
One popular version of a straw hat for men is the Panama hat, which was worn by Clark Gable in the 1939 film Gone with the Wind.
Hats are fantastic in their flexibility of use. If you’re in an area where you want to keep the sun off your head but you also what your head to be able to breathe, a loosely woven straw hat is just the thing you need. On the other hand if you live in a rainy climate and want something to keep the rains off your head, you go for a tightly woven straw hat like those found in Japan and China. Needless to say, there’s as many designs and uses for these hats as there are people!
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Hope is a straw hat hanging beside a window covered in frost.
Margaret George
I love my straw hat and use it a lot in the summertime. It keeps the sun out of my eyes and shades my head.
I hope you all had a nice weekend and are ready to start a new week. I certainly had a great one. Sunday started out with church and the picture above is of me with DD and DIL#5 afterward and the picture below is of me with their children outside in the courtyard. The other pictures today are of DD and our little X Factor at the playground here where I live. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.
It looks like some warmer weather coming our way this week. We may go into the 80’s before the week is over. I’m looking forward to turning the heat off and opening up some windows.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday!
WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN
There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!
It’s National Chocolate Chip Day!
Celebrate today with that little morsel of ooey gooey goodness.
Every one loves chocolate chip cookies it seems, I know I do, but I really like the ones made with oatmeal best! So that is what I’m sharing today — a recipe for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.
1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups quick or old fashioned oats
2 cups Semisweet Chocolate Chips
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts, optional
PREHEAT oven to 375 degrees
COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat brown sugar, butter and granulated sugar in large mixer bowl until creamy. Beat in eggs, milk and vanilla extract. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in oats, morsels and nuts; mix well. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
BAKE for 9 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies or 12 to 13 minutes for crispy cookies. Cool on baking sheets for 1 minute; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Hats make people feel good, and that's the point of them.
Philip Treacy

4892. for warmer days, my hat is ready and waiting
4893. chocolate, always good and good for you too
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !

That is a nice play area! Great pictures. Lots of people here wear straw hats, especially during summer.

Ah yes, Clark Gable in that Panama hat. (*Swoon*)
I adore hats, but haven't worn anything in a long while. I know, not so smart out here in sunny Phoenix.
So cute, your little X-Factor's (temporary!) toothless grin! I don't know if you were a fan, but this reminds me of Lawrence Welk's Christmas show when the Lennon Sisters' little brothers sang, "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth." (I loved that family!)
