Today is Cousin's Day which honors your Aunt and Uncle's kids. They are those great kids who are likely close to your age, and endure the countless family get togethers with you. If it wasn't for cousins, these family events would be much, much longer.

This is a great day for your cousins. Now, hold on a minute. If you have cousins, that means your cousins have cousins. And, that's you! Therefore, today is your day,too.

I’ve lots of cousins of my own but the first picture shown above is of my grandchildren who are all cousins to each other.  The picture was taken last year at our family reunion.  It seems that about every 5 years or so now, my family manages to get all together.  Time and distance does keep us apart for the most part, but it’s grand thing when we can all be together.  

They say we’re to have a little rain today and maybe tomorrow.  Hopefully the week ahead will be a much milder one with temps in the mid 80’s which will be a relief from the 90’s.  

This coming week DS#5 and his family head to the State Fair as his summertime job is doing caricatures there.  Others in the family will also be going but only for fun and only for a day or two.  At the end of the week there will be some celebrating going on as Saturday is a party for our little Precious One’s 2nd birthday and  I’ll be having lunch with some of my friends on Friday.

Meanwhile we have to get through this heat wave.  Take care all and stay cool.

WHAT’S NEW IN THE KITCHEN

There is a food holiday to celebrate every day of the year!

It's Drive Thru Day which encourages us to live on the wild side. Forget about buying locally sourced produce, organic vegetables, and getting our five a day; sometimes we don’t have the time or energy to cook good, nutritious food from scratch, and on Drive Thru Day we can take a short cut without feeling guilty!

Did you know that there are more than 211,000 fast food restaurants in the United States. The drive thru format was pioneered in the United States for banking services. And Hamburgers sold for just 18 cents at some of the first drive thru restaurants.

According to one article I read,  Burger King is still in the top 10 when it comes to the best drive thru restaurants .  It’s been here in our town for quite a long time and always seems to busy when I drive by.  

My favorite drive thru meal is breakfast at McDonalds.  I love their bacon egg and cheese biscuit!

It’s really way to hot to cook today so maybe a drive thru is in my near future.

COUNTING MY GIFTS

Growing up with your cousins is a special gift.

Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for.  There is truly is always something to be thankful for.

Almighty and eternal God,

Protect our military

as they discharge their duties

with the shield of your strength,

may the power of your love

enable them to return home in safety

that with all who love them

they may ever praise you for your loving care.

and Paramedics and EMT’s
