February 12th is Abraham Lincoln's actual birth date. However, these days, we celebrate Lincoln, and all of the U.S. Presidents, on President's Day, which will be this coming Monday.
President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Honest Abe, as he was commonly known, was born in the wilderness country of Hardin County, Kentucky on February 12, 1809.
Abraham Lincoln became president in 1861. Although he hated war, he was drawn into it as he believed it was the only was to save the nation, after the southern states declared their secession from the Union.
In addition to serving as president during the civil war and saving the Union, Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation that ended slavery in the U.S. forever. He also wrote and gave The Gettysburg Address, memorializing the bloodiest and most important battle of the Civil War. Gettysburg proved to be the turning point of the war.
Shortly after the war ended, Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. President to be assassinated. He was shot and mortally wounded on Good Friday, April 14, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theatre.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Leave nothing for tomorrow which can be done today.
Abraham Lincoln
Although I will be doing a Presidents Day post, I thought it important to honor Abraham Lincoln today. He truly was a man to honor and respect.
Great men like him truly made a difference in all of our lives. We cannot all be great men, but we can all make a difference if we try. He had a reputation for being an honest man, something that is to be admired in this day and age. He didn’t have much money, but worked hard for what he had. All in all he makes a good role model for us to follow.
Too many times we tend put things off until a better day. But we need to remember that every day is a good day to do the right thing, for the right reason.
We’ve gained a little more snow every day this week. Inch by inch it is starting to add up and they say there is more coming our way. The pictures today were taken last year at this time, but it looks much the same this year.
Take good care everyone !
I hope you all have a FANTASTIC Friday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.
Abraham Lincoln
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3583. for Abraham Lincoln, a great President
3584. for honesty, always the best policy
3585. for another day to try and make a difference
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
ADVICE FOR TODAY
As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands. One for helpingyourself, the other for helping others.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I guess winter has finally arrived a bit with the snow in your part of the country! Good though because spring is literally around the corner :)
Abraham Lincoln indeed was a very honorable wise man. A local museum had a display about him last year around this time; very fascinating man he was.
betty
I wondered why the halls at Fort Leavenworth were so empty today, and then Keith reminded me... President's Day! Everyone gets Friday and Monday (and well deserved, too!)
