33 DAYS UNTIL SPRING
Sunrise: 7:25 am

Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is President's Day, a day set aside to honor all of the U.S. presidents. We often think of two great presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln when we celebrate this holiday, as it falls by design between their birthdays. More and more of us, look at this day as a tribute to each and every person who has ever served in the office f the President of the United States of America. It is a national holiday. While Federal employees, the post office, schools and banks have the day off, most businesses and industry do not recognize it as a paid holiday.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.
Abraham Lincoln
There are quite a few that are enjoying a nice long weekend with a Monday holiday from work or school today. I can remember a time that it didn’t exist and we honored Abraham Lincoln and George Washinging separately on their birthdays. Now all presidents, past and present are lumped together in one holiday.
When it comes to leadership positions, few are as undisputedly important and influential as the president of the United States. Two U.S. presidents who have made extremely powerful impacts not only on their times but on all history are George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
I found a recipe with a twist to share and help celebrate the day.
WASHINGTON'S BIRTHDAY CHERRY COBBLER
1 c. all purpose flour
3/4 c. uncooked regular, quick, or instant Cream of Wheat
1/4 c. granulated sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. vegetable shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 egg, beaten
1/3 c. chopped almonds
cherry pie filling
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In medium bowl, combine flour, Cream of Wheat, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using pastry blender or two knives, scissor fashion, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk and egg until dry ingredients are just moistened; stir in almonds.
In an 8 x 8 baking dish, spread cherry pie filling. Evenly spread Cream of Wheat mixture over top to cover completely. Bake at 40 to 45 minutes or until top is lightly browned. Serve warm. Makes 6 servings.
Yesterday when I woke up it was a minus 3 degrees here at my house. Today we are to get above freezing but have a chance of a little more snow. Thankfully it’s warming up and they say we may reach 50 degrees by Friday. It won’t stay that warm for more than a day, but it’ll give us a nice break.
I hope you all have a great start to this new week. Happy Monday !

I too remember when we had separate days off for President Lincoln and President Washington's birthdays; always made February a short month for school :) It is good though to have a day to honor all our presidents, because even those that didn't do a good job, at least they tried to do their best.
Yummy recipe with the cobbler :) We would always make a cherry cheesecake in honor of George Washington around his birthday when we were growing up.
betty
The cherry cobbler sound so good. I will have to come back on my desktop and save it. I don't think we would know how to survive here with it that Cold. It was in the low seventies here today, but the wind was bad. We had some stormy weather here tonight will have to wait until morning to see how many limbs and pine cones is covering the yard. Owe my back. (Smile) take care. Jean
