Life is a Special Occasion!

On August 11th the Dog Days of Summer End. The phrase 'Dog Days’ refers to the hottest days of summer. The traditional timing of the Dog Days: the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending August 11, coinciding with the rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. For the ancient Egyptians, Sirius appeared just before the season of the Nile's flooding so they used the star as a watchdog for that event. Since its rising also coincided with a time of extreme heat, the connection with hot, sultry weather was made for all time.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Sirius rises late in the dark, liquid sky
On summer nights, star of stars,
Orion's Dog they call it, brightest
Of all, but an evil portent, bringing heat
And fevers to suffering humanity
Homer
I know that I’m not the only one that will be glad to see the hottest days of summer end. The extreme heat really overwhelmed me this year. We still have over a month of Summer left to enjoy and hopefully they will be pleasant days.
We’ve been enjoying some cooler evenings and mornings here lately and the weather this weeks seems to be almost a repeat of the previous one. I’m definitely striving to savor each moment of summer that remains. I’ve been trying to get out on the porch to watch the sunset each evening and that is what the pictures are of today.
Soon many of my grandchildren will be back in school and with the beginning of school, summer seems to end for lots of folks. The lazy days come to a halt and a new normal of going off to school and all the routines that it involves set in.
For those of us that no longer have back to school days to deal with, lazy summer days remain on the horizon to enjoy to the fullest. Fall will come soon enough.
I hope you all have a TERRIFIC Tuesday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS

3026. for morning routines, a day is always better if you can start the day slowly
3027. for cooler nights, makes for some good sleep
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !

Learned something new here, Ma, I didn't know when the official end of dog day summer was; now I do :) After June, it hasn't been too hot here and I can detect a bit of fall weather some mornings. Guess that is just around the corner!
betty
That was interesting about the Dog Days of Summer.
It really isn't the heat so much with me as we always seem to have a breeze in Florida...but it is the humidity. Mercy....it is off the charts and you can just stand still and break into a sweat. Yikes.
Hope your day is great and a little cooler.
