Life is a Special Occasion!
Hallmark
Today is National Lighthouse Day. It’s a day which honors and commemorates a beacon of light that symbolizes safety and security for boats at sea.
On August 7, 1789, through an Act of Congress, the Federal Government took over responsibility for building and operating our nation's lighthouses. The government recognized the importance to ships at sea to find safe harbor during fog and storms. Over the years, lighthouses have saved many ships, and an untold number of lives.
With the advent of radar and GPS technology, lighthouses have taken a back seat in guiding ships to port. However, they remain the universal symbol of safe harbor to ships and communities that rely upon the sea for their livelihood.
If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining- they just shine.
Dwight L. Moody
The Lighthouse is steadfast, sturdy and reliable. Its purpose is to continually shine its light to safely guide the ships on their journey. Being a Lighthouse for others can be very fulfilling, we have the ability to help and guide others. The purpose of the Lighthouse is to illuminate the way. It is never to choose or judge the path one takes. We are each on our own individual path.
The lighthouse symbolizes permanence and constancy, with its steady light that never ceases. A lighthouse is a welcoming structure, a reassuring sign of steady ground ahead, and an optimistic symbol of hope for all looking to move forward safely.
May we all be like a lighthouse to others, a beacon of hope and security in an often tumultuous world
We've gone through seven months so far this year, and our last full month of summer is upon us. I often get to take little day trips this time of year and the pictures today are of Marblehead, Ohio, it’s just one of the many lighthouses on the shores of Lake Erie.
As a side note, I read an article that said we are having a first ever sales tax holiday in Ohio this weekend. It starts Friday and runs through Sunday. Sounds like a great savings for those back to school shoppers.
I hope you all have a fantastic Friday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
I can think of no other edifice constructed by man as altruistic as a lighthouse. They were built only to serve.
George Bernard Shaw
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3013. for lighthouse, that are symbol of safe harbor to ships
3014. for people that shine their light to others offering encouragement and hope
3015. for the deep blue skies on sunny days, they are a beautiful sight
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !

Such pretty pictures of your day trip, Ma! I like your thought of the lighthouse representing permanence and constancy. I am sure back when they were used for navigation, many a sailor welcomed the beam of light from it as they were steered away from rocks and other dangers. And so true all of us can be beacons of light to those that need light in our circle of friends and family.

I loved seeing all of your photos today Pam! I always love all the thoughts you share with us. My ex husband's great Grandfather had been a lighthouse keeper. I loved visiting the lighthouse he used to keep. Such a fascinating tale. My Patriarchal Blessig says I will be as a light on a hill to my family, a beacon in darkness. It's a nice thought. Have a fabulous weekend! xoxo
