Cat Nights Begin on August 17th. The term 'Cat Nights' harks back to a rather obscure old Irish legend concerning witches and the belief that a witch could turn herself into a cat eight times, but on the ninth time, August 17, she couldn’t regain her human form. This bit of folklore also gives us the saying, 'A cat has nine lives'. Because August is a yowly time for cats, this may have prompted the speculation about witches on the prowl in the first place.
The 17th is also Black Cat Appreciation Day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Tonight's forecast: Dark. Continued dark tonight turning to partly light in the morning.
George Carlin
They say Dog Days have ended, but now Cat Nights are beginning. The nights are getting cooler and longer. Most of us have begun to notice this, but animals are much more sensitive to these changes in light and temperature. Those of us who share our lives with cats and dogs cannot help but notice how lively they are when it’s cooler.
Cats are most active at dusk and dawn. They are nocturnal hunters. Their long, oval shaped pupils are like the changing moon. In bright light, the merest slit. At night, the pupils open wide. When we turn on the lights, cats are waking, watching, prowling. Even longer nights are coming and the nights belong to them.
I’m not looking forward to longer nights at all. I tend to want to go to bed when it gets dark out and that makes for some very long nights. I’m not a nocturnal person and am already missing the daylight time we’ve lost. The only good thing I can see about it getting dark earlier is that the children that have to go to bed earlier due to being in school now, don’t have to go to bed with the sun still shinning.
I’ve got several back to school pictures of the grandchildren already so am sharing those today. There will be more coming as some start to school earlier than others. From all accounts they all seem to be happy that school is back in session. It’s exciting times for them and I hope it stays that way and they all have a great school year.
It looks like our temps are going to remain pretty hot this week. We may get a bit more rain, but it is needed, so we can be thankful for that.
I hope you all have a GREAT start to this new week. Happy Monday !
COUNTING MY GIFTS
What greater gift than the love of a cat?
Charles Dickens
Counting at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for. There is truly is always something to be thankful for.
3043. for cats and dogs, both make wonderful pets
3044. for schools, learning centers for our children
3045. for cooler nights, always good for sleeping
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Almighty and eternal God,
Protect our military
as they discharge their duties
with the shield of your strength,
may the power of your love
enable them to return home in safety
that with all who love them
they may ever praise you for your loving care.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT’s
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

So interesting about the cats.
We had a little black cat to show up at our house several years ago. We took care of it until it died....such a little darling.
I love the longer nights and shorter days....right now, the days seem to go on forever to me. It will all happen so fast....time is flying.
Hope your day was blessed.

So exciting with the kids going back to school! Always wonderful possibilities with a new school year! That was interesting about the cats; I didn't know that about them. I do know it is definitely getting darker sooner these days and not so light in the morning. Tonight it was dark around 7:15 p.m. Those long winter nights will be unfortunately with us before long.
