Life is a Special Occasion!

Fire Prevention Day is always on October 9th. Fire prevention week is during the week in which October 9th falls.
The Great Chicago fire sparked major efforts in fire prevention. Forty years later, the Fire Marshall's Association of North America, FMANA, held the first Fire Prevention Day. In 1920 , President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Fire Prevention Week.
The Saturday during Fire Prevention Week is Fire Service Recognition Day.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Firefighters save hearts and homes.

Today’s pictures are of our little Xfactor having some fun in the leaves this week. Many thanks to DD for sharing the pictures. I well remember that when we children we learned that if we are ever in a fire, and our clothing catches on fire, we should 'stop, drop and roll’. By dropping to the floor and rolling around we snuff out the flames and solve the immediate problem.
When I hear the phrase 'putting out fires', I think this simple firefighting advice can apply to our every day lives too. The fires in our life can represent the stresses in our days. We often have problems to solve that in many cases we didn’t even know existed. Most often the problems are averted, but sometimes we find ourselves fighting the same fire over and over again.
When we really don’t want to deal with the fires, there are three steps that will help us fight the fires. Those steps closely reflect the firefighter’s mantra: stop, drop and role.
Recognize that the fires don’t all belong to you, the fires can be owned by others. You must stop fighting all the fires. Do fire prevention. STOP putting all the work on yourself.
DROP the urge to do it all yourself. You must drop the fire and hand it off to someone else. You might have to help, but your help should be done so that you are preparing someone else to fight it next time. Drop some of your work into some one else’s lap!
You must remember your role. Provide others the opportunity to put out the fires too. Being able to share our burdens in life is a wonderful blessing. We don’t have to do all the work ourselves. There is always someone that can help.
If you find yourself putting out fires that are keeping you from doing the less urgent but more important things in life. Consider the advice of firemen, who know fires best after all. Stop, drop, and role!
I hope you all have a great day! Happy Thursday!

COUNTING MY GIFTS
We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
Cynthia Ozick
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for 2 years and have now reached 2000 gifts. On my way now to 3000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
2111. for our firefighters, I pray for them daily
2112. for the many helping hands of others
2113. for fire prevention, there are many ways to stop fires before they begin.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!

How cute with the little one playing in the leaves! Always fun to hear the leaves rustling! I liked your analogy of the fires in our life with the stop, drop, and roll. Lots to think about with that one, Ma! I do remember in October in school the firemen would come to give us tips on fire safety. Its a good service indeed!
