Life is a Special Occasion!

Swallows Depart from San Juan Capistrano Day is celebrated annually on October 23. The Swallows of San Juan Capistrano are a famous flock of birds which have been associated with Mission San Juan Capistrano for centuries. The migratory birds tend to arrive and leave around the same time every year to their home in Argentina, following a regular schedule which has long been noted by the community around the Mission.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Listen! the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves.
We have had our summer evenings,
now for October eves.
Humbert Wolfe
I think it’s amazing how these birds know by instinct just what to do. They fly south for the winter and north for the summer. I often wish I could go with them. The distance they travel to keep warm and survive makes me wonder why we all don’t do the same. Still and all, here I stay for the winter in northern Ohio where it tends to get very cold and snowy too. It’s my home and traveling is out of the question for me these days.
I think it’s significant that today was chosen for their flight as we near the end of October, the days are definitely getting colder. We’ve not had an Indian Summer day yet, so we may have a warmer day or two ahead, but that will be it until next year.
I’m always reminded of the verse in the Bible that says even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself. If God takes care of the swallows and the sparrows, he will do the same for us. My little brown bird that sits on the shelf here at my house is a constant reminder of that for me. It’s good to remember to be like that birds and trust in His care.
I hope you all have a great day! Happy Thursday!
62 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS
It’s time to make your own Christmas list or at least start thinking about what you might want for Christmas. Your family can’t read your mind, help them and help yourself by writing down what you would like for a gift and give them your list. We ask our children to do this so that we at least have some idea. All they want to do is please you. My family does a gift exchange and we draw names every year to see who we’ll be buying for. It’s impossible for every one to buy gifts for each member of the family because ours has grown so large now. Each person is asked to list at least 3 things they’d like so we know what to get.
COUNTING MY GIFTS
For song of bird, and hum of bee; For all things fair we hear or see, Father in heaven, we thank Thee!
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I have counted at least 3 things every day that I'm thankful for 2 years and have now reached 2000 gifts. On my way now to 3000. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

ADVICE FOR TODAY
God gives every bird its food, but He does not throw it into its nest.

A bit of love from someone dear…

I like how your family does the gift exchange, Ma! Seems very organized that way! I have been to San Juan Capistrano to see the swallows when in March when they arrive, but never thought of the day when they left. It is amazing the instinct they and other birds have of when to come and leave areas, God truly gifted them in that way!
