If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
One of the nation's foremost historians, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. was born on the day in 1917, in Columbus, Ohio. Arthurs grandparents lived in Xenia, Ohio and summers were a constant there for him as his father's work require a lot of moving. He was also able to travel around the world before entering Harvard University at the age of 16. Harvard hired him as a professor in as a history professor in 1946 and 2 years later he went to Paris as assistant to US Ambassador Averell Harriman, advising on the Marshal Plan for reconstruction of Europe. In 1961, Schlesinger became special assistant to President John F. Kennedy. Schlesinger's account of the administration, A Thougsand Days: John F. Kenney in the White House, won the Pulitzer Prize for biography in 1966.
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY
No person who can read is ever successful at cleaning out an attic.
Ann Landers
My mind must be bulging from all the reading I've done. I love to read books of all sorts. Although I did manage to clear out a lot of paper backs awhile ago, there are still books in most every room of my house. I kept the ones I really liked and would read again.
One thing I do every fall is get my flu shot. Maybe you have already done so. I have to say that in the past I've always had healthier winters when I get one so I do recommend them.
The big news here this past weekend was that my youngest son and his wife announced that grandchild #20 is on the way! This will be their second child and our little Lucky Guy is very excited about being a big brother. My children never cease to amaze me and fill my life with more and more blessings every day. Thank the good Lord for giving so much to this family of mine. We are blessed!
Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
Richard Steele, Tatler, 1710
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1040. for a another new grandchild on the way. #19 coming in November and #20 coming in June!
1041. for authors that inspire us
1042. for a flu shot that's going to keep me healthier this winter.
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.
Mark Twain
A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

How exciting for grandbaby #20!! Congrats to all! Going to need to squish a little bit tighter around the table with the growth of your family, but I know you love it!
I haven't gotten a flu shot in a few years, but I'm rarely out of the house, might have to get one this year; thanks for the reminder!
