If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
Cleveland, Ohio native Harvey Williams Cushing, the greatest brain surgeon of his time, died this day at age 70 in 1939. He was noted for creating a method for recording pulse, respiration, blood pressure and temperature during surgery which greatly reduced the number of deaths during surgery and his method became worldwide procedure. He developed silver clamps to control bleeding during surgery and they are still used today, saving many lives. He also received the Pulitzer Prize in 1926 for a biography of physician William Osler.
The world is moving so fast these days that the man who says it can't be done
is generally interrupted by someone doing it.
Elbert Hubbard
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Hugs are the universal medicine.
Author
Thanks to caring doctors like Cushing, we have seen great leaps and bounds in the practice of medicine. People are living longer these days. There are, however, some things that a surgeon cannot cure. Sometimes a hug can be the best medicine we can have and sometimes it is laughter that is the best medicine.
For me there is nothing like a trip to the beach to make me feel better and I got to see a little of Lake Erie last week so that is what the pictures are of today. It was a beautiful fall day that reminded one of summer and the views were just gorgeous.
I hope you all have a great start to this new week. Happy Monday
The Great Physician
Welcome to the Great Physician
Office hours are as you come,
He's a Specialist in all problems
And His day is never done.
He can heal a heart that's broken
He can mend the spirit, too,
No matter what your ailment
He does have the cure for you.
His fee for service never alters
He serves rich and poor as well,
He's our one chance for Salvation,
He alone saves us from Hell.
There's no fee for services rendered
All He asks is that we believe,
That He bled and died to save us
And all His blessings we will receive.
Do you have a special problem
That is troubling you this hour?
Then just simply leave it with Him
You can find no greater power.
Don't delay in seeking treatment
Please, my friend, don't hesitate,
For His office is soon closing
And He'll shut and lock the gate.
I wouldn't want you to suffer
While the Doctor's so close by,
Your whole life will be much better
If my Physician you will try.

I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.

Pam, I love, LOVE the poem about the great physician. It warmed my heart. I also love your "Emergency" numbers! As you know the scriptures are my go to for just about anything I need help with, and even when I don't need help with anything at all! You are a treasure! xxoo
You hit it on the nickle this morning... thank you!
Great poem with the Great Physician and the scripture that went along with it. Fascinating info about Harvey Williams Cushing. What a simple thing he came up with to do the vital signs during surgery that produced such a good effect of less deaths, etc. Lake Erie does look like a great place to explore!
betty
