If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
It was on this date in 1952 that ground was broken for the Ohio Turnpike. It was the first nonstop highway across the state of Ohio. It stretched from the Pennsylvania state line to Indiana. The highway is maintained mostly from tolls which are based on a vehicles weight and the distance it travels.
Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Only that traveling is good which reveals to me the value of home and enables me to enjoy it better.
Henry David Thoreau
I’ve traveled the turnpike many times and am thankful for it. The first time I remember using the turnpike was when one of my sisters went away to college. It was the fastest and best way to get there. It still is. Two of my sons attended the same school so I traveled that route more times than I liked for sure.
Still if I had a choice, I’d prefer the side roads over the big highways as you do get to see a lot more and you don’t need to go quite as fast either. I’m slowing down and have learned that slow lane is where you see the things you would miss out on otherwise.
I still take the turnpike due to the fact that some of my children live east and west of here. In the wintertime it is one of the safest ways to travel. The road is kept clear and free of ice and snow. Our weather is very unstable from now until April sometime so I don’t even try to travel much at all and am resolved that home is best.
Thankfully the internet doesn’t care what the weather is so I’m able to keep in touch quite easily with most of them. Just saying…I do love to hear from all of you by the way.
We’ve had some weather advisories in Ohio this week, thankfully the S word was mostly for those much further east of here. On the news we saw pictures of many snow plows out and snow on the ground. It has been below freezing a time or two and that means chances of snow are always possible. Here at home we had some overnight but this is what was left the next morning.
Take good care everyone! And have a restful and relaxing Sunday!
I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1076. for the turnpike the fastest way east and west
1077. for highway crews that keep our roads safe
1078. for home, it’s always the best
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU ALL !
Life’s a car ride…Sometimes it’s cruise control down smooth highways. Other times it’s potholes on rural roads.

A little smile, a word of cheer,
A bit of love from someone dear…

I've been on that turnpike too, Ma, when we drove across country for my sister's wedding years ago. It is good that they keep it cleared during the winter months, you know for sure how treacherous it can be driving in snow/ice. Do enjoy your day of rest, I know I'm planning to enjoy mine.
