If you can't see the Bright Side, polish the dull side
Ormsby MacKnight Mitchel, founder of the Cincinnati, Ohio Observatory died at the age of 53 on this date in 1862. He was an attorney, educator, astronomer and Union army military leader in the American Civil War. At that time, there were a few small telescopes in the country, but no organized observatory with a powerful instrument existed anywhere.
The great expansion of interest in astronomy, and the proliferation of observatories during the next few years owes a great deal to the efforts of Mitchel, who has sometimes been called The Father of American Astronomy.
If you shoot for the stars and hit the moon, it's OK. But you've got to shoot for something. A lot of people don't even shoot.
Robert Townsend
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
Harriet Tubman
Whether legend, dream, or scientific fact, the sky is full of wonder every night of the week. I love to look up and see the stars. I don’t have a telescope to do so, but still the heavens are beautiful. The sun, the moon, the earth and all the planets have been set in the sky just for you and me.
Something about the night sky this time of year always seems to bring thoughts of cold weather for me. It’s true that on the clearest nights is when it does get the coldest. Our big night here this week will be Thursday evening when it will be time for Trick or Treat. I’m hoping for a clear but not too cold night for all the trick or treaters
When the family was all at home I’d make spaghetti with eyeballs for dinner on Halloween and also serve up some kind of orange dessert, even it was only orange jello. The pictures today are of my efforts for an orange dinner this year.
The dessert, which is shown in the 1st picture, was simple and easy to make. I just layered chocolate cake, butterscotch pudding, candy corn and cool whip.
I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!
COUNTING MY GIFTS
Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to live and to work and to play and to look up at the stars.
Henry Van Dyke
I have counted at least 3 things I'm thankful for this past year and have now reached my 1000 gifts. I'm not stopping, but will continue on counting. There is always, always something to be thankful for.
1085. for the beauty of the heavens
1086. for astronomers that chart the sky
1087. for all the stars in my life
Enter into His courts with thanksgiving — and in His presence is fullness of Joy!
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Please pray for God's protection of
our troops and HIS wisdom for their
commanders.
Lord, hold our troops in
your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us
in our time of need. I ask this in the
name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
AND bless our Police Officers, Firefighters
and Paramedics and EMT's
GOD BLESS YOU !
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

Spaghetti with eyeballs???? :-)
Love that last picture!
That last picture was so precious, Ma! Love his smile! How cute trying to come up with orange food :)
This morning it was really clear here (usually we can get the clouds from the ocean) so when I threw a load of clothes in and it was still dark outside, I looked up at the sky and loved looking at all the stars. Long time since it had been clear to do so, gorgeous indeed!

Loving your orange dinner Pam! But I especially love the little trickster at the bottom. What a sweetie pie. I love the quote you began with as well by Townsend. As usual a feast for the soul and eyes! You never disappoint!
